    He was a great actor. This is one of my favorite lead performances ever on television. He made a gruff, difficult-to-like person seem completely natural in his environment. Just as stirring to watch these days as it was on air.

    I agree, and I will miss him.  Ah, to be able to raise a glass of Chateau Fleet Street with Horace Rumpole!  But I do have some tapes, and one of John Mortimer's books of Rumpole stories...

    Just introduced him and this show to my two classroom aides. They fell in love with him and the show from the first story. Still making fans. I pray that he knew how his fans loved him.
