  • A nasty sergent in drag

    8.5
Rumpole is off to Germany to defend a soldier accused of stabbing an unpopular sergent to death while he (the sergent) was dressed in drag. Rumpole grills the witnesses at trial to get at the truth, especially the forensics, while his junior objects heavily to Rumpole's line of questioning which, as he has said many times, is to get at the truth. Rumpole determines that the sergent may not have been wearin the dress when he was murdered and that the body may have been moved post-mortum. Over dinner with the senior members of the regiment Rumpole draws his own conclusions on what happened and is proved right when the soldier is acquitted and someone "a little bit closer to the sergent" is arrested.moreless
