Rumpole and the Case of Identity
AIRED:

With the Christmas season in full swing, Rumpole defends Dave Anstey on the charge of stabbing a sales assistant in an off-licence. It seems to be a case of mistaken identity, but why does Dave's boss, on whom his alibi depends, change his story and undermine the defence? Meanwhile, Rumpole's Head of Chambers has an attractive new secretary, and starts spending a lot of time with her behind closed doors… When Guthrie Featherstone is seen gyrating at a disco with the girl from the typing pool, Rumpole means to get to the bottom of it all.

Rumpole is defending a man supposedly mistakens for someone else who attacked a store owner while wearing a red cap. At the trial Rumpole is able to determine that someone else who knows the defendent ordered the hit by hiring someone else to impersonate the defendent (red cap and all). Meanwhile things are getting frisky in chambers with Guthrie keeping all kinds of long hours and ignoring his wife in favor of a new secretary Angela. Erskine-Brown and Miss Trant see them at a new dance hall and Guthrie confesses to Rumpole that he is having a "fling". Rumpole counters by inviting Angela to court during a case that Guthrie is prosecuting (and Rumpole defending) and when she hears his opening remarks regarding old and new she leaves in a huff.moreless
