  • This is a wonderful finale to spur the hope that there would eventually be more episodes of Rumpole of the Bailey.

This is perhaps my favorite Hilda Rumpole episode. She stood by her man. I loved how she told Rumpole that she would stand by him, went around to recruit his defense, and finally how she got Rumpole to apologize to the judges at the end of the trial. Hilda was magnificent! On the other hand was Claude Erskine-Brown. What a rat he was tattling on Rumpole like he did! After all his professional misbehavior trying to fraternize with the women he worked with in the law offices, it was incredible for Claude E.-B. to report Rumpole for talking to his client during the lunch break. Erskine-Brown, with or without silk, is a slimey little weasel. It was wonderful to see old Rumpole being saluted by some at the end along with Phyllida Erskine-Brown being honored for becoming a judge. Excellent episode.
