Episode Guide

    • The Man Who is Chosen for Victory
      Season 2 - Episode 33
      Both Kenshin and Shishio are ready to end the fight with their ultimate attacks. As they begin, Shishio uses the insight he received from Soujiro to parry the Amakakakeru Ryuu no Hirameki. He ignites he's sword to finish Kenshin, when Kenshin spins around to hit Shishio. Hiko reveals there is a second half to the ultimate attack of the Hiten Mitsurugi style, and Aoshi mentions that with the combined force of the parry and spin, the second half of the attack is far worse than the first. With Shishio defeated, Yumi begs for Kenshin to spar his life. Shishio kills Yumi as an attempt to get to Kenshin, but dies from being pushed to far over his limits. As Aoshi, Sano, Kenshin, and Saito leave, Gouji begins to destroy the boiler, causing the bridge the bridge they're on to break, and surrounding them in flames.moreless

      Because Soujirou starts to show some emotions, Kenshin is able to read what Soujirou is going to do, which makes Soujirou even more frustrated. In the end, Soujirou and Kenshin square off with each other for the final duel where Kenshin's Amakakeruryunohirameki beats Soujirou's Shuntensatsu.

      Season 2 - Episode 26
      After defeating Henya, Kamatari, and I wambo running away, Misao and the other think that it is over. But then the Destruction Army, Saizuchi and Fuji appear. After Saizuchi spent several minutes explaining his and Shishio's twisted logics, Fuji is about to attack when Seijuro Hiko appears. Seijuro recognizes from Fuji's strike that he is a proud martial artist. He convinces him to strip off his armor. After he does, they fight shortly, and Seijuro uses the Kuzu Ryusen to finish him off.moreless

      Kenshin, Saitou and Sanosuke arrive at Osaka harbour to find Shishio ready to depart for Tokyo. While Kenshin and Saitou keep Shishio busy, Sanosuke uses small explosives given to him by Tsukioka Katsuhiro (an old friend of Sanosuke's who also used to be part of the Sekihoutai) to blast a whole into Shishio's ship.       Act 3 details how Kenshin lived with Tomoe and married her as a cover until his side replenished its forces to continue the rebellion.
    • Appearance of Kurogasa
      Season 1 - Episode 6
      When government officials start getting murdered by an assassin called Kurogasa, Kenshin is asked to protect a certain government official. Sano, never one to miss a fight, goes with Kenshin.
      After seeing the assassin, Kenshin realizes that the assassin is Udou Jine, an outcast of the Shinsengumi. Jine was cast out from the Shinsengumi because he killed people for pleasure, not for the Shinsengumi cause. When Jine finds Kenshin, he realizes he has found someone who he can enjoy fighting against. He tells Kenshin to go back to being a Hitokiri (assassin) because if Kenshin doesn't, he will never be able to beat Jine, and Jine will keep killing people.
      Jine kidnaps Kaoru, hoping this will speed up the process of Kenshin becoming a Hitokiri once more.
    • Two Men at the End of an Era
      Season 2 - Episode 30
      The battle between Shishio and Kenshin begins however, Shishio shows that he has the upperhand by revealing the numerous techniques he knows. At the end of the episode, he shows that Kenshin is possibly "biting off" more than he can chew.

      Season 2 - Episode 22
      Saitou Hajime and the Juppongatana Usui battle each other. Kenshin, Sano and Yumi move on to the next room, which Seta Soujirou is waiting in. However, on their way to Soujirou's room they come across Houji's room where Shinomori Aoshi is waiting for Kenshin.

      Season 2 - Episode 25
      Yahiko defeats Henya with his version of Kenshin's Ryutsuisen. However, he falls unconcious due to the injuries he received during the battle. Kaoru and Misao are hard pressed by Kamatari, but they beat him by using some nice teamwork.

      Act two details Kenshin's role in the revolution, how he met Tomo, and how the rebellion was almost quelled.

      While Kenshin continues his training with Master Hiko, the Oniwaban Group are in trouble. In Kyoto itself, Aoshi finds himself having to choose between his revenge and his old friends. Okina is determined to stop Aoshi to protect Kenshin and the rest of the Oniwaban Group, and the two meet to decide their fate with blades. Misao having learned of Aoshi's need for revenge, realises she must find them and stop them before she loses either her mentor or the man she loves.moreless

      Yahiko visits Mount Hiei, and Sanosuke shows him where that battle with Shishio took place. Meanwhile, Kenshin visits an unknown woman’s grave, and places flowers by it. Also at this time, Megumi explains to Kaoru the severity of Kenshin's wounds, and that it is important to keep him from doing anything that dangerous again. Finally, the gang gets on the train to Kyoto, with Misao waving to them and telling them to visit again. When the gang reaches the road to the dojo, Kaoru extends her hand and welcomes Kenshin home. Kenshin smiles and says, "It's good to be home."moreless

      Katsu notifies Sano that he is going to attack a government building at midnight. Sano, who had decided to go along with Katsu, holds a farewell party for Kenshin and his friends who do not know the true reason behind the party.

Meanwhile, Megumi tires to kill herself, but Sano stops her, and Kenshin tells her that she should become a doctor to help those in need, so that she could make-up for the people she harmed when she was producing opium.moreless

      Kenshin and gang, or the Kenshin-gumi, (at least that's what Yahiko calls them) raid Kanryu's mansion. Kanryu, fearing the wrath of Kenshin, promises to return Megumi in one hour, an hour in which Kanryu will torture Megumi to find out the formula for the new opium.

      Zanza returns to fight Kenshin, and his reason for hating the Ishin Shishi is revealed. Kenshin does not deny that the Sekihoutai were treated badly, and Yahiko and Kaoru tell Zanza how Kenshin is trying to help other people to repay his debt for killing so many people during the Douran. Tae decides that Kaoru is frustrated and needs her help to find happiness with Kenshin. Kenshin goes fishing and comes back with a catfish. Kaoru apparently hates catfish. Kenshin takes a bite of fish and bites into a ring. Tae talks him into giving the ring to Kaoru.moreless

      Sano and Aoshi drag an unconcious Kenshin as they run to escape from the Shishio's burning lair. Saito stays behind and disappears into the flames. Anji and Soujiro also escape, Anji carrying Hoji. Aoshi, Sano, and Kenshin return to Akabeko.

      The story skips forward a month and Kenshin wakes up to find a big celebration. Cho comes and reveals that he has become a spy for the government. He then tells the gang about the fates of the other members of the Juppongatana.moreless

      Season 2 - Episode 27
      Kenshin finally confronts Seta Soujirou, the one who broke Kenshin's old sakabatou. Soujirou's foot speed is greater than even Kenshin's "shinsoku" (God speed), for Soujirou's speed is in the realm of "shukuchi" (reduced land). To Kenshin and the others, Soujirou's speed seems close to teleportation. Kenshin barely manages to fend off Soujirou's attacks, and without the ability to read his opponents next move by judging the others feelings and emotions, Kenshin realizes he is in big trouble.moreless

      Season 1 - Episode 22
      Kenshin, Kaoru, Sano and Yahiko board a steam train not knowing that it is going to be attacked by pirates who want the gold which is being transported in the train. Kenshin and the others fight off the pirates and receive some money as a reward for their bravery. Kaoru uses this money to get a group picture taken of them, dragging in Sano who believes cameras suck out your soul.moreless
    • Shock of the Rai Ryu Sen
      Season 3 - Episode 8
      The round man has Kenshin down and surrounded by the dogs, but then he loses the whistle with which he controls them. Kenshin ends up saving himself and the round man from the dogs. The round man is confused, since Kaioh-sama told him that Kenshin is a demon and has to be killed, but Kenshin saved the round man's life. The round man chains Kenshin to a tree and goes for Magdaria to see what he should do with Kenshin.moreless

      Season 1 - Episode 8
      While gambling with friends, Sano and Kenshin learn that one of Sano's friends died when tricked into using opium. As Sano takes in the news, a young woman named Takani Megumi rushes in on Sano and Kenshin begging for their help. Kenshin and Sano learn that Megumi is being hunted by a cruel businessman named Takeda Kanryu and a group called the Oniwabanshu. When Kenshin and Sano take Megumi to Kamiya Dojo, they are attacked by a couple of the Oniwabanshu, resulting in Yahiko being poisoned by a poison dart. Megumi takes over the treatment of Yahiko, and reveals that she is a skilled doctor, especially in creating medicine. This revelation makes Sano even more suspicous after finding Megumi with some opium....moreless

      Season 1 - Episode 26
      Upon arriving at the island where the pirates live, a couple of Shura's men discover opium in the cargo from the ship that they raided. Most of the men under Shura's command don't understand why Shura insists on only stealing things that they need to survive, and only steal these things from wealthy people. Ginjo, one of Shura's men, and a couple of his followers decide to go into the opium trade without the permission of Shura.moreless

      Season 1 - Episode 3
      It seems Yahiko is having some trouble adjusting to his new sensei - Kaoru. The reason for that is that he wants to learn swordsmanship to defeat his enemies, not to protect others, which is the main point of the Kamiya Kasshin Style.

      Season 1 - Episode 19
      Kenshin, Kaoru, Yahiko, Sano, and Megumi are invited to visit Genzai sensei's sister in the country. While there, they are introduced to Tsukayama Yutarou, a young boy who has a vast inheritance, including a huge area of land. Yutarou wants to become a great swordsman like his father, and asks Kenshin if he is any good with his sword, and if Kenshin wants to teach him how to use a sword if he is any good.moreless
    • Revival of the Shinko Style
      Season 1 - Episode 20
      Raijuuta and a couple of his men attack Kenshin because they don't want him to interfere with their plans. Yutarou, who was watching Kenshin and Raijuuta's men fight, falls into the ocean. Kenshin dives in to rescue Yutarou and takes him to Genzai sensei's home to recover.
    • Sanosuke's Betrayal
      Season 1 - Episode 23
      While running a little errand for the Akabeko owner, Sano sees a painting of his mentor Sagara Souzou. He finds out that the artist is his old friend Tsukioka Katsuhiro who had also been part of the Sekihoutai. Like Sano, Katsu hates the current government and is still trying to get even with the Ishin government for the massacre of the Sekihoutai. When Katsu asks Sano if he wanted to join him in dismantling the Ishin government, Sano must choose between his new friends, and his friend from the past.moreless
    • For the Title of Strongest
      Season 2 - Episode 6
      Kaoru and Yahiko leave on a boat as their friends see them off. Cut to Sanosuke taking out some of his anger (at both Kenshin and Saito) on poor innocent trees. He says he's going to get stronger and show Kenshin that he isn't a burden. Cut to Kenshin sneezing. Townspeople are frightened by Kenshin's sword (as intended). Cut to flashback of Saito asking Kenshin if he said goodbye to Kaoru. Kenshin glares at him and Saito says they should get on friendlier terms since they'll be fighting Shishio together. Saito goes on to explain that he'll be leading the police squad in Kyoto. Kenshin says he's taking a different route than Saito because he doesn't want to endanger innocent people. Saito get angered by Kenshin's peace loving ways and challenges him to a fight. Saito changes his mind and they both leave for Kyotomoreless

      Season 1 - Episode 17
      A young girl named Marimo and her father leave a circus group run by evil men named Sumida to start a circus of their own. When Marimo and her father start their "Cannon-ball girl" act (Marimo gets shot out of a cannon), Sumida's circus loses business, angering Sumida. Sumida tries to sabotage Marimo's act, but Yahiko comes to the rescue, along with Sano "the living target", Kenshin "the umbrella master", and Kaoru "the ringleader".moreless

      Season 1 - Episode 21
      When the military strike force arrives to stop Raijuuta's plans, a bloody battle is fought between the government army and the swordsmen Raijuuta gathered. Seeing the men butchering each other, Kenshin jumps into the fray and tells everyone to stop fighting. Kenshin decides to settle the battle with a one on one fight with Raijuuta.moreless

      Kenshin and Saito arrive at the house where Shishio is staying at. Soujiro greets them and leads them inside the house. Meanwhile, Misao and Eiji sneak pass the gaurds. Shishio talks for a bit about his history, then Senkaku fights Kenshin. Misao and Eiji spy on the fight right as Kenshin defeats Senkaku. Finally, Kenshin challenges Shishio by telling him to draw his sword.moreless

      Season 1 - Episode 16
      Sasaki decides to become a swordsman once again to protect the children, but Sano doesn't allow him to. Sano enlists the help of Kenshin to stop Toma, the former student of Sasaki, and the assassin member trying to force Sasaki to join the assassin group. Toma is trying to assassinate Yamagata Aritomo, a high-ranking official in the government, who is also Kenshin's friend.moreless
    • Find the Lost Treasure!
      Season 3 - Episode 3
      When he finds himself under attack by the Kenwadan, a gang of masked men, a politician, Mr Takamori, throws the key to his safe into an alleyway. Unexpectedly, the key is promptly picked up by a dog, who then escapes with it into a river, despite the gang's frantic pursuit. While praying at the shrine for better luck at dice, Sanosuke comes across the dog, now half-dead, and carries it back to the Kamiya dojo to be looked at by Megumi. Cue comic adventures as the dog, which Sanosuke names Notaro, promptly tears the Kenshin Group's lives apart, eating their food, stealing and burying their possessions, and generally making a nuisance of himself. But it doesn't take the Kenwadan Gang long to track Notaro down. Will Kenshin and the others be able to fend them off and find the key before the gang do?moreless

      Season 3 - Episode 6
      An eclipse. Amakusa Shougo appears at the place Cho is protecting. He defeats Cho and then kills the man he came to kill. Cho tells Kenshin that Amakusa is better than Kenshin. Okina finds out that the three men Amakusa has killed were responsible for persecuting Christians during the Edo dynasty.moreless

      Season 3 - Episode 7
      In Shimabara, Yahiko almost gets run down by a carriage carrying the Ambassador of Holland, Elsten-dono. Kenshin and Elsten recognize each other, since Kenshin saved Elsten's life 10 years ago at the end of the Edo dynasty. The Kenshin-gumi go to the ambassador's residence for tea and crumpets. Magdaria and Shougo are traveling by carriage, then boat to Shimabara.moreless

      Season 1 - Episode 15
      An assassin group, known as the Jinpu Squad, wants to enlist a kind-hearted teacher named Sasaki Heihachirou, who used to be a swordsman, to their group. Sasaki refuses because he has given up fighting and killing. He wants to be left alone so he can teach children to read and write so that they will be prepared for the future to come. One of the assassin group members, Toma Sakaki,was a former student of Sasaki before the revolution, and won't accept his rejection, and threatens to harm the children Sasaki teaches if he doesn't join them.moreless

      Kenshin must decide wheather he wants to go back to Kyoto or not, to go back to becoming a manslayer. Lord Okubo is riding in his carriage, thinking to himself that he hoped Kenshin would chose to go to Kyoto. However, Soujiro assassinates him.
