The whole episode is based on the fact kaoru and kenshins relationship is not where kaoru wants it to be. kaoru's exspectations for kenshin being romantic were very high and thats simply not the case. All and all though the episode was another great one even though there was not any fighting. Even though rurouni kenshin is an action based anime, it still needs to have episodes like this one. Kenshin finnaly steped up and gave kaoru flowers. That showed kaoru that he does care and shes just not another girl he has met wondering. A well thought out episode.moreless

After the high drama of the struggle against Shishio in Kyoto, I was left wondering where Rurouni Kenshin could go next. Surely they couldn't keep that pace up for another 40 or so episodes? So I was pleasantly surprised to discover that the series' immediate answer was to return to the gentle character based romantic comedy of the first few episodes. This is exactly what it means to be - simply a fun, silly look at Kaoru's feelings for Kenshin. The title says it all. I was smiling all the way through this episode, as we move through a comedy of errors. Kenshin's incomprehension as to why Tae is pushing him to give something to Kaoru is beautiful, and his immediate thought - to catch her a fish - is a perfect reflection of Kenshin's innocent personality. I also hugely enjoyed the antics of Yahiko and Sanosuke, as they desperately try plan after plan to regain the ring and get it back to its distraught owner. However, I have to say that my favourite moment has to be Kaoru's daydream at the very beginning of the episode, when she sees the engagement rings in a shop window for the first time. Her fantasy of Kenshin proposing to her is very funny, and certainly gave me a moment of fangirl pleasure, as that is exactly the scene I would love to see played out between the two for real, unlikely as that may be. This episode basically does exactly what it says on the tin. If you're looking for high drama, you're in the wrong place. This is nothing like the series of intense battles that made up the end of the Shishio saga. But if you enjoy physical comedy, and the humorous interplay between characters that made up the first few episodes of this series, you'll love this. It's a moment of frivolity that shines all the brighter against the dark background that preceded it.moreless
Sanosuke: Sorry about what happened before, Missie. I was looking for something I thought was around here.
Kaoru: Looking for something?
Sanosuke: Hey, how 'bout you have a cold drink after your hot bath. Here. (Gives it to her)Kaoru: And what is this?
Sanosuke: Some Western drink called beer that we got at the Akabeko. It's a custom in the West to knock a few back after a bath.
Kaoru: Oh? (Downs it, hiccups) Hey, is there alcohol in this or something?
Sanosuke: I think it's all right to drink today. It's a special day so don't worry about it.
Kaoru: (Totally wasted) Oh, yeah, I guess that's true. (Passes out)Sanosuke: All right!
Yahiko: We'll get it this time!
Sanosuke: Hurry up, Yahiko.
Yahiko: I know, I know. (Tries to pull the ring off)Kaoru: (Giggles) Hey, that tickles.
Yahiko: Stay still, will you, ugly?
Sanosuke: What are you doing, you slowpoke? Come on!
Kenshin: Wait a second. If my memory serves me correctly, Miss Kaoru is an out of control drunk!
Across The Screen: ... Come to think of it
Kaoru: I thought I told you guys... That tickles, didn't I?! (Uses what appears to be the Amakakeru Ryu no Hirameki on Sano and Yahiko)Sano & Yahiko: (Hit the ground)Sanosuke: I give up.
