Sanosuke: Woah. That was pretty impressive.
Toramaru: It's delicious! It's been a long time since I've had a meal this good. Kaoru: I'm so glad you enjoyed it! You really know how to appreciate good food, don't you?
Yahiko: Who knows what goes through the mind of ugly woman anyway? Kaoru: And what do you mean by that Yahiko?
(Watching Toramaru getting ready to eat) Yahiko: Before you start, I have to warn you that Kaoru's cooking tastes horrible. Kenshin: Yahiko, Miss Kaoru's cooking has improved a lot! You don't have to force yourself to eat it anymore. Sanosuke: It's better than dying, in any case.
Sanosuke: (Referring to Kenshin) He's unstoppable if you give him a sword, but give him a bale of rice and he's just an ordinary guy.
A "dohyou" is the ring that sumo wrestle in.
When Kaoru says "hakkeyoi nokotta", it is what referees usually say to signal the start of a sumo match.
Toramaru says "dosukoi" a lot, and it is a popular saying of sumo wrestlers as a battle cry of sorts.
It's interesting to note that the rank of yokozuna is actually an anachronism since it doesn't exist until the 42nd year of the Meiji, which is several decades after this story takes place.
An "ozeki" is the second highest rank of sumo wrestler, with "yokozuna" being the highest. The order of sumo ranks from highest to lowest is: yokozuna, ozeki, sekiwake, komusubi, hiramaku, juuryou, makushita, sandanme, jonidan, and jonokuchi.
Starting with this episode, there are six filler episodes, eps. 13-18, that do NOT happen in the manga.
