Megumi must prove that she is a skilled doctor in the face of bad rumors spread by the Hishi Manji Gang. She also must face and break the sexist stereotypes that hold her back from being accepted as a skilled and trustworthy doctor.moreless
  • Liked this episode even though it was a little filler-ish.

    9.7
    "Superb"
After a few episodes, we get to see Megumi again! Woot. So this episode has to do with the whole stereostypical sexist kinda thing, where this fake witchcraft doctor comes in and accuses Megumi as a fake and a quack doctor, even though she's not. Soon after though, he gets found out by Yahiko and Megumi again, where a fight ensues. Sanosuke comes to the rescue and when the bad guys bring out the wood cannon, Kenshin then comes to the rescue and well, breaks the cannonball into half. So I liked this episode, do I see something developing between Sanosuke and Megumi... Sanumi? I dunno, well, we'll wait until the future to see. Nice episode.moreless
  • There are rumors that Megumi is a fake doctor as a witchdoctor comes to Tokyo.

    8.6
    "Great"
This episode does show Megumi's good abilities as a doctor. I feel sorry for her as the rumors spread. As the witchdoctor begin chanting, I found it funny in both languages. I found it funny how Megumi trick the fake witchdoctor that he was going to die unless he drinks Megumi's magic water. The animation looks a little different in this episode and you get to see alot in one of the endings. I heard this episode didn't show on Cartoon Network first run, it could be the swastikas or that people are worshiping a false idol.moreless

    • In the manga, Hishimanji gang appeared in chapter 4, which was utilized withou them in "Swordsman of Sorrow". In the manga story, Hishimanji gang was chasing two of the students who left the Dojo because of Gohei. They enter the Kamiya Dojo for help and tell they were trying to stop the Hishimanji from causing trouble, but Yahiko realizes their breath and deduce they're the real troublemakers. Kenshin was out buying stuff and Kaoru learns her former students had broken an arm of a Hishimanji member. Kaoru feels responsible and decided to face the gang. Yahiko decides to help her. It all seemed to be lost until Kenshin gets back and defeats them like in the anime(specially the cannon). After that, Kaoru's former disciples are told not to bear a sword any longer.

    • This episode was cut during its first run on CN, because the Yakuza wear swastikas on their backs. This has no tie with nazism or Hitler, however, since it's a little-known fact that the swastika originated in Japan during the 1600's. It was created and used by Tsugaro Nobuhiro during his war crusade, Hitler and the Nazi party simply ripped it off the Japanese. I assume this was cut due to the symbol, although I don't see why they didn't just digitally censor it, just like they do with every other drop of blood on the show.

    • It's one of the only times {or at least the first} when you see Sano wink in the series.

    • This episode was aired Saturday Jan. 24, 2004 on for the first time on CN, and on TV. It aried on CN's SVES.

    • As the summary states, it is true that the "swastika" was used in Japan for a long time before it was used by Hitler and the Nazis. However, it is rotated in a different direction and called a "manji", which is why the gang is called the Hishimanji gang.

    • This episode did NOT happen in the manga. It's simply filler and to explore Megumi a little more.

    • At the end of the episode, when Megumi is walking back to the dojo with Kenshin and Yahiko, fox ears pop up mysteriously. This a reference to the Kitsune of Japanese mythology, who are notorious pranksters. Sanosuke often refers to Megumi as a "kitsune-onna" or fox-lady. This is an untended double pun, the first pun regarding Megumi's trickey nature, and the obvious one to english speakers, a fox, meaning that Megumi is very beautiful.
