Russell Simmons Presents Brave New Voices

Show Summary

Russell Simmons Presents Brave New Voices is a new HBO series that captures teenagers from all over the country who flew to Washington, DC for the 2008 Brave New Voices Festival. The festival is a convention of sorts where young adults are invited to speak their minds about issues, and express themselves. This show tells us what we should expect in our next generation of leaders. Brave New Voices was a seven-part series that gave poets and their mentors from across the states a chance to have a powerful voice in their communities and in the nation. Teenagers in the show were arranged into teams, which competed against each other at the White House. The talent was not limited solely to poets, and many young adults were speaking in word, hip-hop, music, power, voice, imagination, and more. Teenagers were able to honestly and dynamically speak their minds while competing in teams. Eventually, at the end of the HBO series, a team was voted as the winner and became the 2008 National Youth Slam Poetry Champion.moreless
