Ryan was a brave attempt at an all-Australian private eye series to rival those then in vogue in the U.S. Michael Ryan was an ex-cop turned private detective, who took the cases the police either didn't want, or couldn't touch.
Suave, handsome, and tough as teak, Ryan was equally at home investigating fraud, missing persons, or murder, ably assisted by "girl friday" Julie KIng, and and enthusiastic offside Tony Angelini.
Badly scheduled by the Seven Network, the series gained luke-warm ratings, and the first run was discontinued after 23 episodes had gone to air, with the remaining episodes being stockpiled (although the series continued to run in various regional areas throughout the country). The series returned to air in late 1974, with seven of the stockpiled first-run episodes being screened, with episodes 31 - 38 not screening until a repeat run in early 1976. The final episode eventually went to air in early 1977.
