Sabrina and the Groovie Goolies

Show Summary

Welcome to the Sabrina and the Groovie Goolies guide at TV.com. This hour-long show combined Sabrina, The Teenage Witch which migrated from The Archie Comedy Hour with the new series The Groovie Goolies. Originally seen as part of Sabrina the Teenage Witch in 1970, The Groovie Goolies was spun off in 1971 as a solo series and ran from 1971 to 1972 on CBS. It reappeared on ABC from 1975 to 1976.

The show dealt with Sabrina's involvement with a band of monsters, The Groovie Goolies; a rock band with Dracula, the Wolfman, and Frankenstein; who scare people for their own amusement. They were joined by musical groups the Bare Bones Band and the Mummies & the Puppies.

A.K.A The Groovie Goolies and Friends (syndicated title). On October 24, 2006, a DVD, The Groovie Goolies' Saturday 'Mourning' Collection, was released.

  • "Frightening Frankie, Dangerous Drac, and (thump thump!) Weirdo Wolfie!"

Well, not exactly. These and all the other residents of Horrible Hall were funny, not scary, and their antics were sheer joy. The songs were first rate, too. A little known fact is that a song from 1971, "Chick A Boom(Don't You Just Love It?) by Daddy Dewdrop, originated on this show.

There is plenty of evidence that the show was inspired by "Laugh-In." The gags were very similar. I especially loved seeing Bonaparte go to pieces or Frankie get struck by lightning and say, "I needed that!" Best of all was that Dracula had no Transylvanian accent. Top notch!moreless
  • Sabrina And The Groovie Goolies Hour was a one hour Saturday morning cartoon show that ran on CBS from 1970 to 1971.

This was one of my most favorites from Saturday mornings. I was 6 years old when this one hour cartoon show was shown on Saturday mornings in 1970, and I can still remember it. I especially remember the end of the opening theme song which combined both Sabrina and The Groovie Goolies, which went "well it's time for the Groovie Goolies and Sabrina, the Teenage Witch". These characters were my most favorite of the Archie shows. I like their seperate shows as well. CBS was the network to watch during the 1970-1971 season. It started out with "The Bugs Bunny/Road Runner Hour", then "Sabrina And The Groovie Goolies Hour", then "Josie And The Pussycats", then "The Harlem Globetrotters", and then "The Archie's Funhouse Hour".moreless

Even though it says "She-Ra Princess of Power" this is also about Groovie Goolies, which is why I'm posting it here. ;) [quote]...
