Salem is in therapy for the loss of his "best friend" Harvey. This is likely justified from the Season 3 finale 'The Good, the Bad and the Luau', where a Dr.Doolittle spell allowed Harvey to talk to animals without suspicions. During that weekend, Harvey and Salem became pals.
Regarding the Friday the 13th episode, there are several possible explanations for Harvey not dumping Sabrina: 1. Harvey did not realize Sabrina had put so many spells on him in that episode. 2. They didn't know each other for a long time back then, they weren't in a relationship either, if I remember correctly. It's fairly different. 3. Harvey was personally told. In season 4's last episode, Harvey risked his life to find out. 4. The writers wanted to get rid of Harvey and couldn't think of another way to do it.
In response to the previous poster: The "Sabrina" producers tried many times during seasons 5-7 to change the "Sabrina, the Teenage Witch" title to just "Sabrina," because Sabrina was no longer a teenager. However, Archie Comics (which owns the rights to the "Sabrina" character,) prohibited the show from changing the title. For marketing purposes, though, the WB just called the show "Sabrina" in the advertisements.
(Salem gets caught stealing Zelda's hair curlers) Salem: I like to bat them around on the floor. For exercise. That's my story and I'm sticking to it!
Hilda (about Salem): They kicked him out? Sabrina: Yep, they thought his obsession with Harvey was bordering on psychotic...and they caught him stealing Sweet-n-Low.
Roxie: I suppose you want me to help you move stuff in. Sabrina: That would be nice. Roxie: I'll do it anyway.
Roxie: You were at the top of your class, had a cute boyfriend, and actually enjoyed extracurricular activities. Sabrina: Maybe. But I bet you can't tell me which ones! Roxie: Can. Don't want to.
Roxie: Stay right there, I'll call nine-one-one. Sabrina: Er I'm sorry. This must look really strange. Roxie: No, I was gonna go with psycho, but it's your call.
Morgan: Hi! You must be the new girl, Sabrina, and you must be her aunts, Hilda and Zelda. Hilda: And you must be clairvoyant!
A brief clip from the episode "First Kiss" is shown while Sabrina is in therapy.
A new opening is used from this episode and on, with these lyrics: Life's changin' around me And I'm gonna make it mine I'm reachin' out and livin' by my rules Time's movin' way too fast I wanna make it last... 'Cuz I'm out on my own now And I like the way it feels.

According to "Sabrina" executive producer Paula Hart, Nate Richert (Harvey Kinkle) was initially let go at the start of this season because it was thought that he was "part of the high school baggage that Sabrina needed to leave behind." Since so many viewers complained about his disappearance, however, the producers brought Harvey back for a few guest-spots during season five. He rejoined the cast of "Sabrina" full-time in season six.
In the living room of Sabrina's college dorm was a street sign for Ashmont Terrace. Ashmont was the production company that William Asher and Elizabeth Montgomery had during the last few seasons of "Bewitched" (1964).
It is slightly ironic that Elisa Donovan joins the cast of "Sabrina" in this episode. Back in 1996, Donovan starred in the teen comedy "Clueless," which aired right after "Sabrina" on ABC's TGIF lineup. In fact, Melissa Joan Hart guest-starred as Sabrina Spellman in one episode of "Clueless."
From this episode on, Sabrina tends to use a laptop to look up spells instead of the magic book. She does occasionally still use the book in some episodes.
Soleil Moon Frye and Melissa Joan Hart both tried out for the title role of "Punky Brewster." Soleil won the role, but is best friends with Melissa Joan Hart in real life (as well as on the last three seasons of the show).
The episode title references the 1978 movie Every Which Way But Loose, starring Clint Eastwood.
