EDIT
Searching for clues to the family secret, Sabrina calls up Aunt Dorma, the "black sheep" of the family, accidentally waking her out her usual ten-year nap. While Hilda and Zelda are sound asleep from the house full of poppies, Sabrina must keep an unknowing Valerie, Harvey and Libby (the new "brain buster" team) in the kitchen. Additionally, Sabrina herself must fight the urge to fall asleep! Finally, Sabrina conjures up some snow to rid the Spellman home of the poppies... In revenge, Aunt Dorma fills the Spellmans house with poppies, which are lethal to them, making the Spellman witches fall asleep. Hilda and Zelda fall asleep instantaneously, but Sabrina, as she is half mortal, doesn't. To complicate things, Valerie, Harvey and Libby come to Sabrina's house to study for a brain buster at their high school. It's up to Sabrina to juggle between studying and helping her aunts...moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (2)

    • Zelda (reading Hilda's new cookbooks): Two hundred Mexican Dishes for Lovers, Corn the Sensuous Vegetable, Souffle? Okay?

When Zelda reads the title of the book, Souffle? Okay?, you can see that the actual book is a Mexican Recipes cook book, for the title is printed on the back.

    • How could Salem break the windows with water balloons? The windows would have to be paper thin for that to happen.

  • QUOTES (12)

    • Libby: You want me, to do you a favor?
Sabrina: What's the sudden fascination with pronouns?

    • Sabrina: Wait, I don't mean to be an alarmist, but shouldn't we be wearing Hazmat suits?
Mr Kraft: It's food poisoning. Or should I say, "Puff poisoning". They're all gonna be laid up for at least a week, thanks to you and your accomplice, Valerie "Sweeney Todd" Birkhead.
Sabrina: Valerie would never wish kidney failure on anyone!
Mr Kraft: Well, I'm not blaming Valerie. I'm blaming you. You've been trying to sabotage this competition, because you know how important it is to my career. You don't wanna see me make Principal.
Sabrina: Well, however true that statement is, I had nothing...
Mr Kraft (raising hand): Aah, well it's not going to work, young lady. And I am holding you responsible for having another team ready by Saturday and if you don't... you're going to see my ugly side.
Sabrina: You mean it gets uglier?

    • Harvey: Poor thing, she must be exhausted from cleaning up all night.
Libby: She didn't do a very good job, it still smells like Mildew.
Valerie: She can't go to the competition in this condition...
Sabrina: I can so! Actually, I can't sew but I can knit!

    • Sabrina (after the house is filled with poppies, Libby, Harvey and Valeria knock at the door): We don't want any cookies, religious reasons.
Libby: Do you mind? We're supposed to be studying, not standing out here on your door mat. Which, by the way, feels cheap!

    • Mr. Kraft: Westbridge: the capital of Madagascar is...
      Sabrina (hitting her buzzer): Snow!
      Mr. Kraft: Incorrect!
Sabrina: No, I'm not! Snow will get rid of poppies!

    • Salem: Hey, I don't hang up the phone when you're threatening random strangers!

    • Salem: Where did you get those flowers? Other Realm poppies are lethal to Spellmans.

    • Salem: I don't believe it! Tobias is spying on us with a telescope! Some people have no moral compass...

    • Salem: Please! (Sobs) Don't make me scrub anymore toilets! I keep falling in.

    • Mr. Kraft: Westbridge, what is Newton's third law of motion?
Sabrina (after hitting her buzzer): I don't know that.

    • Zelda: I am sick of his behavior and I'm not gonna take it anymore.
Salem: Let's destroy everything that's dear to him. Let's indoctrinate him into the cathedral of agony.
Zelda: I'm gonna write him a very stern letter.
Salem: You're a regular Mad Max aren't you?

    • Valerie (holding a tray of cheese puffs): Cheese puff?
Sabrina: Oh I'd love one... are they hiding underneath those things?

  • NOTES (2)

  • ALLUSIONS (7)

    • Sabrina (after the members of the quiz team all collapse due to food poisioning): Wait, I don't want to be an alarmist, but shouldn't we be wearing Hazmat suits?

Hazmat suits are suits which provide protection from hazardous material or substances. They contain breathing apparatus and are often used by firefighters.

    • Mr. Kraft: ...and your accomplice, Valerie "Sweeney Todd" Birkhead.

This is a reference to the musical Sweeney Todd, where the title character is a barber who kills his clients, while his accomplice sells their meat for her pies.

    • Sabrina: Something tells me this is not the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

This is a reference to the final line of Casablanca, "Louie, I think that this could be the beginning of a beautiful friendship."

    • The title, "The Big Sleep", alludes to The Wizard of Oz. In this movie, poppies mysteriously make some drowsy, which happens in this episode to Hilda, Zelda and Sabrina.

    • The Big Sleep is also the title of a novel by Raymond Chandler.

    • Salem: Oh Sabrina, do you know what you could do for me? Order this water-balloon catapult from Abercrombie and Witch.

This is a play on words of the well known clothing label "Abercrombie and Fitch".

    • Salem: You're a regular Mad Max aren't you?

Mad Max is a movie starring Mel Gibson about a police pursuit driver, who is drawn into a path of vengeance after a motorcycle gang kills his family.
