  • A sleazy lawyer tries to interest Nick Alexander in printing a smear story about a famous judge.

The plot had definite possibilities, but, in the fantasy world of this mediocre series, characters behave like stereotypes from bad movies rather than real people, and we just know that the judge will turn out to be a warm, wonderful human being no matter what dirt the bad-guy attorney tries to dig up. Ray Walston plays this slimeball as so irredeemably nasty you almost expect him to kick dogs and steal from babies. Lew Ayres could suggest integrity better than most actors, but has to work hard here. On a penny-dreadful level, it's modestly watchable - but, seeing the judge is supposed to be a man of Welsh ancestry, couldn't he at least have pronounced his own surname correctly?moreless
