  • The adventures of an idealistic young investigative reporter on a big New York daily.

    6.5
This show was one of two to be spun off from segments of "The Dick Powell Show", and, like the other one, "Burke's Law", it fell far below the high standards of the parent series. However, whereas "Burke" proved quite popular, this series was a disaster, just barely limping through a half-run. One can't say its fate was unmerited. It pretended to give us the tough truth of life on a big NYC paper, but did nothing of the sort. These hard-boiled seen-it-all hacks were just so nice all the time! Hardly a single story had even the faintest whiff of reality, and cliches were everywhere. "I went out and I dug for it, and the deeper I dug, the dirtier it got!" was a typical line. Some nice guest stars counted for something, and some episodes were so corny as to provide absurdist enjoyment, but it was mostly a waste of everyone's time.
