EDIT
Togenkyo was a peaceful land where demons and humans could live together. Suddenly, a negative wave of energy flowed towards Togenkyo and caused demons to go out of control. They began to attack humans and cause chaos. In Changan Palace Temple, a renegade monk named Genjo Sanzo is given a mission. He tells Son Goko, a monkey whom he found locked up on a mountain, that they are going on a journey. They soon meet up with two demons, Sha Gojyo and Cho Hakkai. Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (1)

    • One of the romanizations for Saiyuki is "Gensomaden Saiyuki". If you try to rearrange the order of the title, it makes "Da monkey is a genius".

In this case, it means "Goku is a genius" as Goku is always referred to as "Monkey Boy".

  • QUOTES (3)

    • Monk #1: (talking about Goku and Sanzo) I don't understand why a priest such as priest Genjo Sanzo would pick up such an unruly child as him?
      Monk #2: Don't ask me.
(Genjo Sanzo hears them and gives them a cold stare)
Genjo Sanzo: Don't talk of me as if I am not here. what I pick up or throw away is none of your business.
Son Goku: What do you mean by pick up like a disease?

    • Son Goku: Sanzo, I'm hungry.
Genjo Sanzo: Look, you and I both know it isn't possible for you to starve to death!

    • Genjo Sanzo: Shut your mouth, and move your ass!

  • NOTES (8)

    • 'Saiyuki' is actually based on a Chinese Myth about a Priest, Monkey, Kappa (Water Demon), and a Pig's Journey to the West to see Buddaha.

    • Son Goku is the Japanese version of the character Sun Wukong, a monkey god in the Chinese myth of the "Journey to the West". The Goku in "Saiyuki" and the Goku in the original "Dragonball" share similar traits.

    • Genjo Sanzo is loosely based on the Buddhist Monk Xuanzang who made a pilgrimage from China to India in the 600's to bring back Holy Scriptures.
