  • Samantha tries to stop one of her own projects so she can save butterflies.

I am not sure why but this episode didn't seem as funny as some of the earlier ones. The gags weren't as free flowing as you might expect, the humour seemed just a little forced. The thing about her boss Chase and Dena having a romance was quite amusing but the whole butterfly saving thing didn't always seem to work. Andrea was mostly concerned with luxury office furniture which was to be expected, I suppose. Samantha's mother is actually more sympathetic than you might expect. I hope the series picks up again, this episode was just a little on the disappointing side.moreless
  • I see where the 'saboteurs' are out in full force again. Don't know why the tv.com ratings are so low... this was another fine example of what over 10 million people tuned in to see last night.moreless

    9.1
As our heroine, Samantha Newly, attempts to get her life back (and improve it, as well), she is butting heads against the 'new world order' - one that is not compatible with who she really wants to be.

But this is a situation comedy - not a morality play. Or is it both? The writers and the powers that be are trying to give us both and doing a pretty good job of it. The very likeable Christina Applegate (who we assume, in this show, is/was a grown up Kelly Bundy - what a train wreck that could be) has determined that the person that she used to be - a vain, selfish, self-involved shrew - is not who she wants to be anymore.

She doesn't want to build malls at the expense of an endangered butterfly, and she doesn't want to use her good friends to accomodate her own personal gain. She doesn't even want to please her mother and marry her boss, let alone the billionaire she threw away last episode (we're guessing he'll be back for another try soon).

No, she wants to be a 'good person' (whatever that is these days) and find out if she can be happy with her old boyfriend, whom she barely remembers anything about, and if she can make up for all the times she used her good friends to get what she wanted.

Throw in a decent amount of funny/ironic/sarcastic dialogue, and this is all grist for some very good comedy/morality - just like when our mommies used to give us our medicine with a spoonful of sugar when we were kids. You never really outgrow wanting to take your medicine disguised as a treat... do you?moreless
  • Samantha's boss wants to hook up with Dena and Samantha sucks ups to Dena so she'll talk to her boss about a mall project.

This episode of Samantha Who? was funny. Dena as usual is funny in this episode. I liked the story she was telling about dogs and men. It was funny. I kinda thought it was weird when all those protesters put that net on Samantha but it was kind of funny to see. Dena was so funny when she was with Samantha's boss. They took things so fast, it was hilarious. I thought it was funny when Sam was trying to make butterfly and it look liked a moose. It started getting even more funnier when she was doing the butterfly voices. It was so funny to see at the end when Samantha kisses Todd, then pushes him. I really enjoyed this episode.moreless

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (1)

    • Channel 8 News interviewed Samantha and placed "Chapman & Funk VP and Environmental Terrorist" as the title under her name, even as she was already advocating for the conservation of the blue butterfly species.

  • QUOTES (17)

    • Dena: Shame on you!
Samantha: Oh, how so many of my conversations start out like that.

    • Samantha: (talking about Todd) I just saw him today and he acted like nothing ever happened.
      Regina: Well maybe it didn't.
      Samantha: It did happen.
Regina: Well maybe you imagined it.
Samantha: I did not imagine being kissed.
Regina: You suffered a very serious head injury.

    • Chase: (talking to Samantha about Dena) Your friend? I want her. Make it happen.

    • Samantha: It really is the hardest part, that despite our very best efforts, some things just aren't meant to be while things that are meant to be, they seem to find a way.

    • Samantha: Since when is she [Dena] your best friend?
Andrea: Who got up in the middle of the night to pick her up when her stupid car ran out of gas last month?
      Samantha: Me.
Andrea: Oh, so now all of a sudden you have a memory. That's very convenient.

    • Dena: Dating is dangerous for me. I get too close too fast and then I get hurt, like a little sparrow that keeps flying into the same windowpane over and over and over and over again.

    • Dena: Let your heart be a dog.

    • Samantha: I was reading an article the other day, by which I mean I was watching tv, and it said that happiness comes from realizing which things in life you just can't control and then controlling them, even if it kills you. That might not have been the lesson. I was flipping around.

    • Samantha: Just tell me Frank. I need to see Todd so is Chloe up there or not? Because you know, I just quit my job so ah... I can wait here all day.
Frank: That's not very impressive. I wait here all day everyday.

    • Samantha: (on a news interview) If you find something beautiful and delicate in this world, you have to protect it. Not just use it up and shove it aside. Just 'cause you can.
Dena: (watching the news in her bedroom, reaching out her hand to the TV) I forgive you, Sam.

    • Samantha: (talking to the blue butterfly) Yes, you are very pretty. But if I lose a friend over this, I'm going to make a wind chime out of you and your entire family.

    • Samantha: Parenting books, golf, Ohio.
      Andrea: What are you doing?
Samantha: I was just listing the things that I couldn't give a crap about.

    • Dena: Yeah, I got yelled at once by a guy right after he kissed me. And my braces got stuck in his chewing gum. He was a bad therapist.

    • Regina: Just how poor does a man have to be before you'll date him?
Samantha: This is not really a good subject right now... I kissed Todd last night.
Regina: Well, of course you did. He makes, what... eight hundred dollars a year?

    • Samantha: No, no, no. This not who I am anymore. I have to get to Chapman and tell him to call this whole thing off.
Andrea: Sure... you just need a way to pay pack the 200 million dollars. Maybe a bake sale.

    • Samantha: I am a killer! I have butterfly blood on my hands!
Andrea: Oh, I don't think they have blood. They're like birds.

    • Samantha: Hey, look at what I made!
Dena: (trying to figure out what her sculpted plant is) A...moose head. (clapping)
Samantha: No, it's a butterfly. Yeah. Oh, speaking of which, have I talked to you about my mall project?
Andrea: (cutting Samantha off) Hey Dean's, did you know that an ergonomic chair can add ten years to your life?
Samantha: Did you know that a karner blue butterfly only breeds two time a year?
Andrea: Did you know scoliosis from bad office chairs?
Samantha: Also, butterflies can only survive on wild blue lupins? That's crazy huh?
Andrea: My grandma has a hump.
      Samantha: (yelling) Save the butterflies!!
