  • Samantha discovers a few things from the hypnotherapist.

    8.0
This was a quite pleasing episode of Samantha Who. The moment when she realised she remembered playing Annie and it was not her own life was very funny and well done. Samantha and Frank were great together there. The hypnotherapist does not really uncover that many hidden memories but she does get over her fear of elevators. Samantha was rather cruel to Todd, though. Throwing him out of the apartment was a bit harsh, I thought. The scene when Samantha goes to Angrea's place hoping to move in with her were very funny too. Still, this was another enjoyable installment.moreless
  • Dialogue is not as snappy as it has been in the first few episodes.

    6.9
Ever since "The Virgin" episode, this show has lost some of its charm. The episodes prior to "The Virgin" were hilarious. Watching Sam reacquaint herself with her life makes for some very funny moments. However, I fear the writers have already run out of material or are not fully exploiting the material's potential. While I enjoyed the idea that Sam confused her reality with a memory about the plot of the play "Annie", it was Sam's reaction that disappointed. Why would she turn on her parents like that? Yes, they are kooky, but all parents are. And tossing Todd out of her apartment? Sam's sudden sense that everyone has betrayed her seems to come out of nowhere.moreless

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (3)

    • Samantha after bashing her parents and leaving their home thinking she was adopted, realizes what the therapist brought out was she played "Annie" when she was younger and was not adopted.

    • The song playing when Sam was entering her mom's car at the end of the episode was "I Am A Scientist" by Guided By Voices.

    • Although Sam professes to having a pretty paralyzing fear of elevators -- she sure walks out of one happy in this episode. It's because while the hypnotherapist didn't cure her amnesia, she did get over her fear of elevators.

  • QUOTES (18)

    • Samantha: I know I wasn't adopted, I remembered playing Annie in school.
Regina: Oh that's right, you did. Not your best role. You don't play adorable well. It comes off as snide.

    • Samantha: The road to independence takes time but no matter where you come from, or where you're headed, the journey's always better when you get to turn to someone and say, "thanks for being here".

    • Samantha: First of all, I'm adopted. I don't know if I told you that. But I also remember this big tall bald man, who I'm pretty sure is my birth father. He gave me this beautiful heart shaped locket. And I have all these friends. And we would sing all the time and have these amazing adventures.
Frank: And did you have a dog?
      Samantha: Yeah! I did.
      Frank: Named Sandy?
Samantha: Yes. How did you know that?
      Frank: Because that's Annie.

    • Frank: I'm sorry. Can I interrupt.
      Samantha: Yeah. What is it?
Frank: I'm sure I'll think of something.

    • Samantha: Okay, so maybe I'm not ready to be completely independent just yet. I mean, I'm having to catch up on three decades of my life here. Cut me some slack. Look, I know I don't have to remember it all right now. And, I guess, that sometimes I forget that figuring out who I am is hard on everyone. We're all trying our best, and we're going to make mistakes. We have to go easy on each other.

    • Regina: (to Samantha) You can save what you want to say until after you swallowed. I made the food, I don't need to see it again.

    • Samantha: So, in one day I destroyed my parents, got kicked out by my best friend, made my ex-boyfriend homeless, and almost burned down my own apartment. Oh yeah, independence is awesome.

    • Andrea: So. Where are you going to stay?
Samantha: Well, I thought I would just stay here.
Andrea: Why ever would you think that?

    • (Samantha and Andrea are talking about Samantha being adopted.)
Samantha: Why wouldn't they tell me about this?
Andrea: Who cares. You're adopted. It is so in right now, I can't even tell you.

    • Regina: Everything I have done is for your own good.
Samantha: Really. Even when you tell me things that aren't true?
Regina: I've never lied to you.
Samantha: Two weeks ago you told me that my best friend in high school was an exchange student from Prague.
      Regina: But you loved Elena.
      Samantha: You made her up!

    • Samantha: Since I have to rely on other people to tell me who I am, I don't get to spend that much time alone. In fact, the last time I had some peace and quiet was when I was in my coma. I'm so looking forward to the day when I can be completely independent. But in the meantime, it's pretty cool when I figure something out, all by myself.

    • Todd: What are you doing? Don't you know you're not supposed to put metal in the microwave?
Samantha: Well I do now! I think that something that important they'd got it written on there or something.

    • Regina: Remember when you wanted a trampoline until you hit your head on a beehive?
Samantha: Why would you put a trampoline underneath a beehive?
Regina: To stop you from jumping too high!

    • Sam: I'm very hungry, but I keep starting fires.

    • Sam: (on phone ordering food) Actually, uh, can you just bring me a bunch of stuff and stand next to me to see if I die?

    • Sam: You're supposed to say, you know, "Oh, Sam, sweetie, you can stay here as long as you want", and -and -and, then we eat cookies.
Andrea:Well, Sam, you're making me feel like a bad friend.
Sam: Well you're being a bad friend!

    • Andrea: See that hole? That hole is when you and I tried to live together. You threw a lamp at me.
Sam: Why did I do that?
Andrea: Because I threw a lamp at you.
      Sam: Over what?
      Andrea: I don't know...it was something about a scrunchie.

    • Samantha: Have you ever been in an elevator?! It is like riding in a coffin falling down a mineshaft!
