  • Bye bye Samantha.

When I first watched the pilot last year, I really had a good time. It's always great to see Christina Applegate in a new role. She's so vivid and funny.

But the, over the course of episodes, it really started to get boring. And I just watched every episode thinking it would get better.

So when I heard that the show was being cancelled, it didn't really affect me... until I watched the last few episodes ABC shot before making the decision.

The series had really gotten her groove back and I surprised myself smiling again while watching it.

The end of this episode is so promising (Sam and Todd proposing to each other, Regina moving in with Sam, Andrea getting cold feet...) that I wish the show had not been cancelled.

If only the network had not rused its decision... But unfortunately it's too often the case...moreless
  • Series Finale...

This is most possible the last episode and my last review for Samantha Who?. But I am not sure, anything can happen. It is just like characters getting killed on NBC's Heroes - they always find a way to come back.

Finale or not, this episode has followed the formulaic fairy tale ending. Sam finally ends up Todd in what can possibly be the gayest airport scene on television. The unresolved sexual tension between Seth and Andrea was put to rest, when Seth crashes her wedding. Chapman and Dena end up as a happily ever after couple, though they are not married. While they younger ones find love, the older ones find separation. The happy couple of season1 and 2, finally part ways in this finale.

Well, Samantha Who? may not be the best show I have watched in TV so far. But sure, I did enjoy the initial installments of the series. The show was definitely finding it hard to keep up with the concept in the second season, and as a result produced some really lackluster episodes. I really adored some characters - my top 3 would include: Jean Smart; not a lot of woman can play the cool mom character, and she did get a deserving emmy for that. #2 is Jen Esposito - she perfectly portrayed the despicable b***h and still managed to be funny at the same time. And #3 is Frank (I don't know his real name), the stone-faced doorman who made us laugh with his witty sarcasm. Sam Who? had a decent run. And I am pretty OK with the cancellation.moreless
  • Season 2, Episode 20.

It's Andrea's wedding day, and she decides on a man that she wants to spend the rest of her life with. Samantha also chooses between Winston Funk and Todd, in a scenario that ends in an engagement with one of them. Meanwhile, Regina's marriage begins to crumble.

I LOVED this episode! It was definitely a great series finale, especially for a sitcom. The scenarios they were in were great, although it seemed like the final scene was sorta stolen from The King Of Queens. I don't know why. Anyway, great episode! Sam and Todd are finally happy! YAY! I loved the proposal. :) Amazing episode. Great way to end Samantha Who?.moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

  • TRIVIA (1)

  • QUOTES (9)

    • Chase: (after Dena just told him about Sam's amnesia) She worked for me an entire year. She was our best performer and she had no idea what she was doing? Amnesia?

    • Samantha: (opening monologue) I guess a lot of girls have this princess fantasy -- living in luxury, totally pampered. I'm trying to understand it. In fact, I'm trying really hard. (end monologue) There's another kind of fairy tale. One built on star-crossed lovers who fight against the evil empire. Who find each other against all odds... That last one? Now, that's my kind of fairy tale, where true love trumps all. And they live happily ever after.

    • Samantha: But that's the thing. The wedding's gonna be on the news on TV. And if I bring Funk, people will see. People far away. People in London.
      Dena: Like Todd?
Samantha: No, I was actually thinking Prince Harry might be upset. Yes, Todd! Ah Todd is not gonna be happy about this at all.
Andrea: Oh, you had no choice. Todd is in London. Funk is here. Here versus there. Here is always better.
Dena: Not if you're talking about a bear.

    • Samantha: You know what, forget it. We're just out of sync. You know, we are relentlessly out of sync. It's like when you are in my bed, you should be on the couch. When you're on the couch, you should be in my bed. When you should be in Africa, you're in Chicago. When you should be in Chicago, you're in London!
Todd: Yeah? Yeah, well I can beat that. First, you're as mean as a snake. Then you were in a coma. Then you didn't remember me. Then you thought you wanted me. Then you thought you didn't want me. The best time we ever had together was when you were in a coma!

    • (after watching tape of Funk planning to give Todd his big break)
Samantha: He sent him away. He sent Todd away so he could be with me.
Andrea: Well? Hah. (showing Sam her wedding dress)
Samantha: It's all fake. It's a set-up. God, how can I be so stupid to think that it was real?
Andrea: OK, if that's supposed to be your toast to me, then you should keep working on it.

    • Howard: A tattoo.
Regina: Of a butterfly. And I like it.
Howard: Oh, me too. You know, I always wanted hepatitis, but now I can just get it from you.

    • Regina: We're young. I don't want battlefields and cemeteries and final resting places. I'm not ready to rest. I'm too excited about our future.
Howard: But that's what I wanna do in the future. I wanna look at the past.
Regina: Not me. I'm just starting. I'm a butterfly.
Howard: Well, they have a lifespan of six days!

    • Samantha: Thank you for the ride to the airport 'cause I wouldn't have been able to catch Todd without it.
Winston Funk: Uh, Sam, what are you doing?
Samantha: What? Do you feel manipulated? Used? It's gotta be rough, huh? Because I am not your puppet in your little puppet theater show. Okay? You don't get to control my fate.
Winston Funk: Your fate? Fate! There's no such thing as fate, sweetheart. Alright? Fate is what happens to people who have no power.
Samantha: Well, I do have the power. I have the power to walk away. Check it out. See you at work on Monday!

    • (saying it at the same time)
      Samantha: Will you marry me?
      Todd: Will you marry me?

  • NOTES (2)

    • Andrea's fake dad: You know, when I worked on Veronica Mars...

Veronica Mars is a TV show that was on the WB then on the CW between 2004 and 2007. It was about a teenage girl, Veronica Mars, being a smart and sassy private detective.

    • Samantha: ...I just found a really good episode of Top Cook here.

The title Top Cook is a play on Bravo's reality cooking show, Top Chef.

    • The yellow digital ticking clock appearing at the bottom of the frame throughout the episode is a trademark of the FOX action-drama 24.
