    • While talking at the bridge, Kikuchiyo's sword is all red, but a few seconds later it returns to the normal red handle and gray blade.

  • QUOTES (10)

    • Mizuki: Please, you have to do something.
Kambei: In case you hadn't noticed, I'm about to be executed. I'd like nothing more than to help her, but I'm in no position to do so.
Mizuki: Liar. Yeah, you've got something planned.

    • Katsushiro: Don't leave my side.
      Kirara: I won't
Komachi: And don't you leave mine, sidekick.
      Kikuchiyo: I couldn't if I tried.

    • Komachi: But if you go without me, I'll be worried sick about you, and you don't want that.
      Kikuchiyo: Of course not.
      Komachi: (giggles)

    • Kirara: Please, wait.
      Komachi: Kiku!
      Kikuchiyo: What is it, sprout?
Kirara: Please, you've gotta take us with you.
      Komachi: You gotta.

    • Kirara: I think the real problem is I understand my feelings too well. We've been working closely for some time, but now I find my gaze lingering on him. I've done my best to deny these feelings, but instead, all I feel is shame.
      Elder woman: And the samurai?
      Kirara: He hasn't noticed.
Komachi's friend: Do you believe that?
      Komachi: What a shocker.

    • Kambei: I'll spare his life on one condition. Let the women go.

    • Amanushi: Ayamaro, this samurai is accused of murder in your home. What do you know of him?
Ayamaro: Forgive me, your grace, but I do not recognize this man.

    • Shikimoribito: May I ask why you killed the envoy?
Kambei: What's the saying? Ask no question; hear no lies.
Shikimoribito: I am merely curious as to what you could've gained from such a reckless act as attacking the capital.
      Kambei: Nothing at all.
      Shikimoribito: How utterly useless.

    • Kambei: Lady Honoka, may I ask a favor of you?
      Honoka: Of course.
Kambei: Tell the guardians the man who killed the imperial envoy was Shimada Kambei. They'll know what you are talking about. The bargaining chip will be me.

    • Honoka: The guardians are far too pragmatic to ever risk alienating a trading partner without some clear reward.
Kambei: I see. What if I had a bargaining chip, something to make it worth their time?
Honoka: They're always willing to listen.
