      • Ishimatsu: My eyes are finally open.

      • (Heitarou lost the bet to Rikiei)
Heitarou: As a villain, I will end this properly. I never intended to win, to begin with. I have no intention of letting my precious subordinates suffer under you. And I have no intention of giving you our island, either.
        Rikiei: (angry) What?
Heitarou: As I promised, I will atone for this with my life. With my own life. (stabs himself)

      • (Heitarou is on the bridge)
Heitarou: I've taken countless innocent lives during fights between Yakuza. And because of that, I've lost irreplaceable friends and family. I've seen more than enough blood.

      • Mugen: I don't want to rule or be ruled.
Rikiei: Where are you going? If you stay here you'll have everything you want. Are you just going to throw that away?
Mugen: I don't believe in anything other than my own strength. Later.

      • Fuu: Let's do something and get out of here.
Osuzu: It's no use. I can't run away.
        Fuu: Why?
Osuzu: If I run away, my father will be killed.
Fuu: But you don't want to stay, right? And why do you have to pay for your father's debt.
        Osuzu: Because... we're family.

      • Jin: (To Sousuke) If you really want to save her, you'll have to crush the Nagatomi clan. They've only been hired with money. There aren't any among them prepared to guard their boss with their lives. If we can take the boss's head, then the clan will collapse.

      • Nishimatsu: (about Mugen) You should fire that bastard right now! He just killed an ally!
        Rikiei: Well, it's okay.
        Nishimatsu: (bewildered) Huh?
Rikiei: It was a good chance to show him off to our people.

      • Rikiei: (Running from the fight) Nishimatsu, what are you doing? Go up and kill them.
Nishimatsu: (He stabs Rikiei) You never trusted me since I used to be one of the Kawara people. Not just me, but the others too. You only trusted money. (Rikiei collapses)

    • NOTES (2)

    • ALLUSIONS (1)

      • There is a reference to Akira Kurosawa's 'Sanjuro' in this episode's end, where there is a final face-off between Nishimatsu and Mugen. Similar to the finale of the film, here too both men stare each other down and with one movement the other man is down. And the hero leaves town. 'Sanjuro' is the sequel to 'Yojimbo' where Toshiro Mifune returns as the samurai with no name. 'Yojimbo' is the movie from which most of this episode's plot is derived.
