  • ...and now the fool seeks to return to the past and undo the future that is aku

    8.5
Here we see Jack's first major battle with Aku's new metal minions. Most of these drones are childsplay compared to what Jack would fight in the future, and Jack sliced through several hundred of these with ease. The episode reached its peak when several bug bots were motioning back to flee when Jack whispers "No....there is no escape..." and slices through the rest mercilessly.

You can't have a proper samurai show with slicing and dicing, and you can't have a kids show with human body parts getting sliced off spouting blood and guts (at least not back then you couldn't). In a stroke of genius, Genndy compromises by him slicing through robots which spewed out oil and electricity, thus keeping all the same action expected of a samurai show while keeping it appropriate for the kids.

This episode ends the trilogy-pilot of the show. The show was all uphill from here. It still had a couple episodes to go before it really took off, but it was already well on its way when this aired.moreless
  • 20 Minutes of Robot Destruction!

    9.5
This episode is basically just ALL action! It's pretty awesome action at that. The Dogs and Jack come up with plans of ways to destroy thousands of robots at once, of course all of those plans were awesome and worked, but Jack still had to fight thousands of him with his sword. on one robot he slashes it in half, in slow-motion, then as it splits in half you see the oil pipes, then they spew all over Jack, this was a pretty brutal episode of Samurai Jack! lol. over-all this is an enjoyable episode. especially if your into the all-action Samurai Jack Eps.moreless
  • Very good episode.

The dogs survey the scene as Aku’s robot spider-droens approach the dogs’ archeology site and slave camp. Jack has the dogs begin forging weapons while Aku lays out a map and creates a battle plan using the available machines and explosives. He has the dogs overturn their digging machines and then supply their claws with large rocks, creating improvised catapults. They also dig large trenches, create bows and armor-piercing arrows with the special gems, put spikes made out of the same gems in the trenches, and rig up a suit of samurai armor. He also befriends an alien horse and prepares it as his mount and mounts a small dog statue to his helmet while painting a flag with dog paw prints.

The next morning, the spider-drones enter the valley and Jack rides forth to engage them. Jack fires arrows to trigger the catapult-digging machines, which fire their payloads of crystal missiles. He also activates pre-planted oil cylinders set to explode then rides forth with a gem-lance and skewers the spiders while his steed batters its way through the horde. Jack prepares to face the second wave with his katana in hand and dispatches each one with a single blow as they launch themselves at him. One of them brings Jack off his mount and onto the ground – as the horse flees, Jack rises and fights them on foot, slowly losing his armor and taking minor wounds. Jumping through the flames, Jack lures the spider-drones toward him to pre-weakened rock formations which he brings down on them. He then lures up a cylinder where he has a pre-rigged series of rocket engines that he triggers to destroy even more.

    good episode.moreless
  • The beginning concludes.

    9.0
The first big fight! I don't think I've ever seen anything like this before. Droid after droid succumbs to Jack's skills, and just when you think it's getting too repetitive, new demises for them come out of nowhere.

And you can never get enough of the sparkly sound every time the light glints off the crystals.....

I especially like when Jack finally gets down and dirty and rips the almost all the remaining droids to shreds instilling enough fear in the handful that remain to cause the to try and back off. To which Jack simply say, "No."

*CLANG* *CLANG* *SWISH* *SLICE* *CLANG* *BOOM*

And with his enemies vanquished we get to see the true spirit of Jack at the forefront and his determination to defeat Aku....abruptly interrupted by the praises of a dog, lol.

    • Jack was cutting drones in half with his sword all through this episode, but only toward the end of the episode do the drones start spewing oil when cut in half.

  • QUOTES (1)

    • Aku: He is stronger than I remember, but no matter. For you see, little samurai, the world is mine. My eyes and ears are everywhere. Nothing you do will go unseen. Quest as you may, but we will meet again when I see fit, in a time and place of my choosing. And it is I who shall put an end to the war started in that day's long past, Samurai Jack.
