This episode really surprised me at how good it was. The show never spent too much time w/ young Jack and I was skeptical at how entertaining an entire episode devoted to his youth would be. I was quickly proven wrong. This is another beautifully animated and art directed episode. I especially liked how their interpretation of Africa and its inhabitants evoked African art. The episode has a very transporting feel. One can almost feel the heat of the sun blaring down. The music (an under-appreciated aspect of the show) is once again fitting and atmospheric w/o being over bearing. Overall I find this one of the very special episodes the show has to offer, a meaningful and effective glimpse into Jack's training as a kid.
