  • The first episode worth watching

The art style by this time was more or less finalized, with Jack maintaining a youthful, but strong image, the backgrounds and characters detailed with their own unique eccentricities. We also meet (sort of) the first interesting side-character (sort of) Ikra, the warrior woman. While it's obvious from the start she's not all she appears to be, things quickly get turned on their head by the end of the episode with Jack's attempts to return home once again being foiled.

He begins the episode on his quest to find the magical jewel the woolies spoke of. He has traveled far North away from the forests and mountains to a hot desert spotted with oases and trade towns. Here he meets a shaman who tells him about the jewel and an unknown evil that interrupted her vision....enter three bounty hunters that attempt to capture Jack...and enter Ikra, the warrior woman who helps defeat the bounty hunters and get Jack out of the trade town.

They traverse the desert for many days and nights and finally reach a lone oasis where they find the jewel. However, things predictably go horribly wrong....disturbingly wrong... Jack's hopes and dreams are crushed once more, and he continues his journey, now without direction, a big blow for the samurai.

Oddly enough this episode got very very little airplay and didn't actually air until much later in the season, even though it took place before the three blind archers...moreless
  • Kind of sad

I had an inkling from the start who the warrior woman 'really' was, but there was a look she had during one of the campouts that looked almost sad and guilty at the same time like she was up to something. But sure enough we find out that 'she' really is Aku in an elaborate deception.

It's sad that Jack missed an opportunity to easily destroy Aku, and Aku seemed almost sorry for Jack. Plus, Jack seemed to kind of like 'her', so it was all the more troubling to find out 'her' true colors.moreless
