    Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

    • TRIVIA (2)

      • Trivia: Da Samurai mentions videotapes in the last scene; apparently, even in this futuristic world, DVDs have not yet totally replaced them.

      • After Jack has cut the two 'sticks' he sheaths his sword then he tosses one to Da Samurai. In the next shot is medium range and Jack is shown holding his sword but in the following closeup Jack has the stick in his hand.

    • QUOTES (2)

    • NOTES (0)

    • ALLUSIONS (2)

      • Jack:
The duel, first using sticks, is a reference to Kurosawa's "Shichinin Samurai" or "7 Samurai" wherein one of the samurai duels with a braggart--first with sticks (and it is obvious who the winner is) and then with swords.

      • Da Samurai: Sho'nuff!
Da Samurai bears a similarity in style and dress to Sho'nuff, The Shogun of Harlem and villain of the movie The Last Dragon (1985). As in that movie, Da Samurai persists in trying to get the hero to fight him and the hero recites various proverbs. Da Samurai meets a better fate then Sho'nuff, though.
