This is another favorate episode of mine, it's pretty much Samurai Jack doing Resevour Dogs. As we see the perspectives of all four bounty hunters and their mind sets. I really love how each of the mind sets are of a different artstyle, it's pretty similar to a episode of Powerpuff Girls but that's a different story.

With the two twin chineese cats we see it's the Chinese art style, the Gentilmen it's an old black and white film reel, Jujounga it was African art and the funnest one was the one with Boris which was practically a child's drawing which makes sense because of how childish and simple minded he is.

I like how the warrior princess is handled, her uniform is obviously an homage to Darth Vader. Anyway her character out of the bunch is the one that's truly simpathtic since she's trying to take out Jack to save her planet from Aku's tyranny. But we know that Aku will never keep his word and she is making a big mistake, Jack is her best chance for salvation.

I really like the suspense, it's a different kind because we're steps ahead of Jack and the question on our minds is how will he fight though the trap. We then see the plan in action and it for a moment almost looks like it works but reality is a whole different story.moreless
  • Once again, Aku tries to get the bounty hunters to get the honorable Samurai Jack. Through the plans of 4 bounty hunters and 4 possible ways of attack to get rid of the Samurai, they band together under a princess who longs to free her people from Aku.moreless

Once again the creator of the show is just outstanding at not only bringing the old Samurai movies into today's standard, but also giving the audience some sympathy especially for the warrior princess. In the end, you just can't help but feel sad for this woman who wants to free her people and yet, you know Aku isn't the most honest person and yet, you want Jack to live on. The four bounty hunter's story through flashback was just excellent and yet funny because one of the hunter, Boris who was the stupid one had his flashback in a simple drawing like a kid's drawing because of his mind was child-like. The fight is only a couple second long but worked so perfectly. The ending was a direct copy from a samurai movie where he is walking away knowing that the fight continues on.moreless
  • awesome episode, one problem.

    9.5
I am a big fan of samurai jack since i have first seen it and I would like to say I love every episode and this one is no exeption. The charecters are draws in such a perfect was in relation to their origin. Boris has to be one of the funniest characters in the series "Then i will break him. break him BREAK HIM." I would have rated this episode a 10 out of 10 except for one reason: Jujounga the Abouriginal bounty hunter. The charecter is great and voice suits really well but why on earth does his didgeridoo have holes drilled into it and its called a flute? strage but other than that an awesome eppisode!moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (2)

    • Exactly where did I and Am store their weapons? They didn't seem to be wearing any bags or pouches or anything.

    • The member of the pair of "fraternal twins" bounty hunters who waits for Jack in the pit is the white one - except for the moment he pops out with the chain. For that moment, he's drawn as the brown one.

  • QUOTES (2)

    • Princess Mira: (aafter hearing I and Am's plan to capture Jack) You're on the right track, but the two of you could never defeat Jack. Jack is cunning and hard to restrain. By leaving him a sword he stays in the game.

    • Princess Mira: Have you always been this stupid?
Boris: Yes!! (pause) What? Uh, huh?

  • NOTES (1)

  • ALLUSIONS (3)

    • Gentlemen: Knife in Leaf
The Gentlemen manages to stick a leaf to the wall by throwing a knife at it, much like in Akira Kurosawa's "Yojimbo" when Sanjuro sticks a leaf to the floor by doing the same.

    • I and Am: Appearance
The Siamese killer twins, I and Am, are an acknowledgement of the Disney Siamese cats Si and Am from the movie Lady and the Tramp. In the movie they sing the song "I am Siamese If You Please."

    • Princess Mira: Appearance
It might be a long shot, but given her looks, Mira might be meant as an evil version of Samus, the heroine of Nintendo's "Metroid."
