After Aoshi used his Kaiten-kenbu technique on Kenshin, the slash marks on Kenshin's chest were bleeding. After the battle is over, and Kaoru, Yahiko, and Sanosuke approach Kenshin, the slash marks weren't bleeding anymore.
Aoshi: It's impossible to break through my defenses, now stand up, Battousai.
Kenshin Himura: Back then… Many men charged into battle. And despite their differences, they risked their lives for the future of this country and the people's well being. But you're different… The only thing you have is a desire to fight that is as cold as ice. Even now you're assisting others in bringing pain to people. And as a wanderer trying to help people… I CAN'T ALLOW YOU TO GO ON DOING THAT!
Kenshin Himura: I have to say I think I finally figured out a way to counter the defense of his kodachi. Aoshi Shinomori: Then I'd have to say, I think you're bluffing. But you're not the kind of man who bluffs like that, are you? Why don't you show me then? What that way is.
Kenshin Himura: I can't beat you in terms of speed because my blade is longer than your kodachi's. So I had to adjust it to make it the same length as yours. Aoshi Shinomori: So, that's why? You were holding the base where the blade is dull. You've shown me the true identity of the Legendary Manslayer. In gratitude, I will defeat you with the true attack of the Oniwaban group.
Aoshi Shinomori: Kaiten-kenbu. Not one of my enemies has ever survived this attack. And now the Manslayer is dead.
Yahiko Myojin: You're going to pay for this! You're not getting away Aoshi! Even if I die in the process, I'm gunna make sure I take you with me! Kenshin Himura: Yahiko… Yahiko… you're important to the Kamiya Kasshin style as it's successor. I can't let you die in a place like this.
Kenshin Himura: (To Yahiko Myojin) When I was nearly defeated by Aoshi's Kaiten-kenbu, your passionate words really meant a lot to me, that they did.
Aoshi Shinomori: Finish me off now Battousai, because if you don't I promise I will continue to come after you for as long as I can. Kenshin Himura: That's fine, keep challenging me until you're satisfied. However, this is between you and me, Aoshi I won't allow you to involve anyone else in this fight.
Kenshin Himura: Don't tell me that you would go to such lengths to get a hold of money that you would even sacrifice human life to feed your hunger for it!
Shikijo: Leader, don't look at me like that, because it doesn't suit you at all.
Aoshi: (staring at the graves of his 4 comrades For now...for now, I can't place flowers here. But I will someday, I swear it.
Kenshin: (To Kanryuu) If you're begging for your life, why don't you ask your money to save you?!
Megumi: I can cure almost anything, except love-sickeness.
In this episode, sadly, Cartoon Network cut out the part when Sano stops the knife that Megumi would've used to kill herself. All you see is him come in and the knife drop to the ground.
The ending of this episode and the ending of its manga counterpart are completely different. In the manga, Beshimi did NOT succeed in firing his attack at the gatling gun; Kanryu just ran out of bullets. Also, you actually SEE the scene when Kenshin persuades the police chief to help Megumi. Next, in the manga, Aoshi did NOT take the bodies of his fallen comrades, only their HEADS! And furthermore in the manga, when they realized that Aoshi disappeared, there's a scene where everyone follow him through a secret passageway to confront him and it was THERE that Kenshin tells Aoshi to come after him again and win to be named the "most powerful" for his friends' sake and Aoshi's forgiveness in himself.
Though it's not apparent right away, Aoshi blames himself for the deaths of the Oniwabanshuu. This provides him with the motivation/excuse to join up with Shishio for another chance to battle Kenshin later in the series.
Weird, no one has discussed Samurai X yet.
