(The judge is performing the ceremony after telling Fred & Esther they must be married before he can annul it & they can be rid of each other and the judge can be rid of them)
Judge: Esther, do you take this man as your lawfully wedded husband, for better or worse; for richer or poorer; in sickness and in health; to love honor, cherish, and obey until death do you part?
Esther(reticently): I do.
Fred(angrily): You would.
Judge: Do you take this woman...
Fred: Judge, I've taken all I can stand.
Judge: ...to be your lawfully wedded wife, for better or worse...
Fred: If this is better, I can't do no worse.
Judge: ...for richer or poorer; in sickness and in health; to love honor, cherish, and obey....
Fred: None of the above.
Judge: ...until death do you part?
(Fred stands silently.)
Judge: Mr. Sanford, just say I do.
(Fred moves his lips to say I do but nothing comes out and Esther elbows him to try to get him to speak)
Cal: Come on, partner. You got it licked now.
Fred(hesitantly): I do.
Judge: The by the power vested in me by the state of Missouri, I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride.
Fred: Well, on with the annulment.
