  • This is one of the best tales; a creepy and convoluted tale of a faceless and powerful being who can bring photos to life... and vice-versa.

Although most of the few Sapphire and Steel tales are self-contained, this one feels even more so and as such it is a good one to begin with (surprisingly better than the actual first story which is downright odd and quite confusing until the end). The agents, Sapphire and Steel, conduct their investigation with the minimum of disclosure to the audience - except in a bit of technobabble - but it's the setting and the claustrophobia of the story as well as the inherent creepiness of the normality that has been tainted in some way that makes this story a good one. The first episode sets the scene well and even shows some more depth to the agents and their roles in the universe. Steel continues to be the stolid, grumpy thinker while Sapphire is the light, empathic telekinetic agent who senses her way through their problems. Together they can overcome almost anything.moreless
  • Sapphire and Steel doesn't have a pilot episode, but if I'd choose a saga where to start to watch the series, this would be the one. It's very scary and the british way to make suspense tv series is excellent.moreless

Sapphire and Steel arrived to a building to check an anomaly that it's hidden in photographs. The anomaly takes the form of a man without face. Maybe now it's not too scary but I remember when I watched for the first time like 25 years ago, even I had nightmares about the man without face. This saga is a good way to get into the universe of Sapphire and Steel. It's a short saga of 4 episodes instead of others that are of six or 8 eps. And as I told you, it's real scary tv episode. Definitely it's a must watch episode in the sagas of Sapphire and Steel.moreless

    • Steel: We should have been here earlier, before things happen. Before things break through. Someone should be here waiting.
      Sapphire: That's impossible.
Steel: It's not at all impossible.
Sapphire: There aren't enough of us.
Steel: There are more than enough of us.
      Sapphire: Well, who would volunteer?
      Steel: Volunteer?
Sapphire: Yes. Simply to sit and wait maybe for hundreds of earth years. Would you?
      Steel: That depends.
      Sapphire [ smiling ]: You wouldn't. I know you.

    • Steel: Well, there are those of us who are very good at sitting about and doing nothing. They do it non-stop.
      Sapphire: The Specialists?
Steel: The Specialists? Well, what are we? What am I?
Sapphire: You're an Operator. We're all Operators.
