Saturday Night Live

Season 20 Episode 12

Bob Newhart/Des'ree

Aired Saturday 11:30 PM Feb 11, 1995 on NBC

  • Trivia

    • NBC had covered Super Bowl XIII back in January 1979, and a portion of the telecast was extracted on SNL six days later. The producers had to re-acquire footage from that game from NFL Films for the "Sports Beat" sketch, as the network rights had long since lapsed. Other video highlights used were Bill Mazeroski's 1960 home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to lead the Pittsburgh Pirates to victory over the Yankees and Hank Aaron's 715th home run to pass Babe Ruth on the all-time list.

  • Quotes

    • Dr. Bob Hartley: I dreamt I was hosting Saturday Night Live.
Emily Hartley: That show's not still on, is it?

  • Notes

  • Allusions

    • Emily Hartley: What is it, Bob? Did you have another dream?

Suzanne Pleshette's appearance as Emily Hartley spoofs the final episode of Newhart, when we learn that the show's entire eight-year run was just a dream, she also says "Saturday Night Live? Is that show on anymore?," a slight-of-hand reference to the show's tumble in the ratings.
