Al Franken wrote "Limo for the Lamo" to point out the fact that Fred Silverman, NBC president since 1978, had not gotten NBC out of third place in the ratings. What Franken himself later admitted was a "frontal attack," came on the heels of NBC's failure to make a workable deal for Lorne Michaels to return as SNL's producer for the 1980-81 season.Silverman was offended by "Limo for the Lamo," forcing Franken to submit an apology to him.
