  • Trivia

    • This episode features one of the only times that Dan Aykroyd broke character, which is featured in the "Nick at the Strip North" sketch.

  • Quotes

    • Bill Murray: The Senatorial race in Virginia was so close, that they are recounting the votes. So far the winner is Republican John Warner, who's ahead by a very slight margin. Now, I know what you're thinking. You're probably saying, "Bill, you maniac, what does this have to do with "Celebrity Corner"? Aren't you getting off the track?" Uh-uh. Because this chief politician John Warner's wife is none other than perhaps the greatest actress who's ever lived, and whose face has set the standard for screen beauty for so many years. Of course I'm talking about Elizabeth Taylor.

    • "Let's go see Foul Play. I'm dying to see that new young actor who falls down."
—Jane Curtin, at start of the "Uncle Roy" sketch

  • Notes

    • First appearance this season of the "Point/Counterpoint" sketch on "Weekend Update." While the name itself was drawn from the segment seen on CBS's 60 Minutes, the tone and format (especially Dan Aykroyd's "you ignorant slut" invective towards Jane Curtin) appear to be a spoof of a nightly opinion debate segment that aired through the later 1970's and into the mid-1980's on The 10 O'Clock News on New York television station WNEW-TV (now WNYW), Channel 5. The debates, generally of a social, political and economic nature, pitted Dr. Martin Abend, a conservative firebrand, against a liberal commentator, Professor Sidney Offit, and often degenerated with a shoutfest with Dr. Abend and his opponent sometimes hurling insults at each other that had almost nothing to do with the issues being debated at any moment - but not of the same frequency as in the Update "Point/Counterpoint" sketches.
