Here he got involved with the Poplar Pike Playhouse, the theatre at Germantown High School. At GHS he took acting, speech, and choral music classes, and auditioned for every play. Chris got small parts in musicals first, then moved on to bigger roles in regular plays his Junior and Senior years. After Houston, Chris moved back to Tennessee and taught acting and film & video at his own Germantown High School. He missed acting though and decided to move to Los Angeles. Once in L.A. he got a job at F.A.O. Schwarz in the Beverly Center, where he eventually worked his way up to Operations Manager. During that time Chris began taking classes at The Groundlings Theatre. After several years of classes he was voted into the Sunday Company. Around this time he also began to get a few commercials, some small guest starring roles in various sitcoms, and a little part in the film Jingle All the Way. After a year and a half in the Sunday Company, Chris was voted into the Groundlings Main Company. While performing at the Groundlings, talent scouts from Saturday Night Live saw him and asked him to fly to New York to audition. In the fall of 1998 Chris became a featured cast member of Saturday Night Live, joining regular cast members and fellow Groundlings Will Ferrell, Ana Gasteyer, Chris Kattan, and Cheri Oteri. In the fall of 1999 Chris was made a member of the regular cast along with Jimmy Fallon and Horatio Sanz. In May he completed his second season on the show. Chris generally spends his summers in Los Angeles where he keeps a car and a small apartment.moreless

    He hosted the stand up show Comic Groove on Comedy Central and had his own show on NBC The Tracy Morgan Show, which was cancelled during its first season. Soon after, Tina Fey cast him in her new NBC situation comedy show 30 Rock, which went on to win the 2007 Emmy for Most Outstanding Comedy Program, and has been critically acclaimed.

    On November 28th, 2006, Tracy was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving in New York in the early morning hours. His sentence, serve no time behind bars, and included a $1,000 fine, five days of community service, and a D.U.I Program in exchange for a guilty plea. However, accepting the plea would mean an admission of guilt to violating his current probation order in Los Angeles for his prior D.U.I. conviction, which would most certainly land him behind bars for a spell. According to the district attorney, Morgan had "watery and bloodshot eyes," and had the odour of alcoholic beverages on his breath when cops pulled over his Cadillac Escalade on the Henry Hudson Parkway. When asked if he had been drinking, he responded, "Yes, I had some beer." He had another court hearing on January 4th, 2007, and on February 14, 2007, Tracy pleaded guilty to misdemeanor D.U.I. charges. According to terms of the plea deal, he must undergo supervised treatment by a doctor and stay out of legal trouble for 6 months. If he complies, he'll pay a $1,000 fine and escape jail time. He is also ordered to perform an undetermined number of community service as well.moreless

After he graduated from high school, Chris moved to the L.A. area to join up with the improv/sketch comedy group The Groundlings, whilst studying acting and directing at the California State University, Northridge. Chris was discovered when a producer from Saturday Night Live saw him performing at the Groundlings and she flew him over to New York for an audition. He became a featured player of SNL in March of 1996, and a cast member in September of the same year. He currently lives in L.A. with his Dalmatian, Lola who apparently fakes injuries and was half the basis of Chris' famous SNL character, Mango (the other half being his Russian ex-girlfriend).moreless
