Catherine O'Hara was hired by Dick Ebersol when he was rebuilding SNL in 1981. However, co-supervising producer Michael O'Donoghue blasted the holdovers from the previous twelve episodes in the first staff meeting. As result, O'Hara resigned from the show and returned to SCTV (after a two-year absence from the show), but not without recommending SNL to Robin Duke.
