      • Sketches not shown in the 60 minute version: "Press Conference Play Set," "Delicious Dish," "Sally O'Malley," "Not My Baby," and REM's performance of their 1992 hit "Man On The Man."

      • Ben Affleck was briefly booked to host this episode, but he was bumped to February when his movie Reindeer Games was delayed. He would host later in the season.

      • NBC ordered Colin Quinn to cut a joke he was going to make on Weekend Update. The butt of the joke was fellow NBC personality Jay Leno. The joke, sprung from a lawsuit by a Tonight Show audience member whose eye was damaged by a T-shirt shot from an air gun during one of the pre-show warmups in 1998, went like this: "It was the first thing on The Tonight Show in seven years that you couldn't see coming from a mile away."

      • A Janet Reno (Will Ferrell) sketch was cut after dress rehearsal.

      • This show is made up entirely of recurring sketches, characters, or impressions.

      • R.E.M. didn't actually have a recent album out at the time of this appearance, a rare circumstance. They performed "Man on the Moon" as a homage to the Andy Kaufman biopic that was released in theaters in late 1999 and co-starred Danny Devito.

      • During the monologue, the cast celebrates this being Danny DeVito's fifth time hosting the show, but it's actually his sixth. However, it was his fifth time hosting alone, as on the second go-around, he hosted with wife Rhea Perlman.

      • Jim Carrey was originally asked to host this episode but they went with his Man on the Moon co-star instead.

      • Al Franken's son Joe appears on "Weekend Update" to close out the "Joe Franken Decade" and launch the "Al Franken Millenium."
