Chris: What happened? I'm not wearing my glasses. Did the bear get him again?
Adam: Would you put your damn glasses on? We shouldn't have to tell you every time the bear eats one of us.
The Lyrics To Adam Sandler's Mother's Day Song:
Turn out the lights single mama
Mother's Day is here
Put away those diapers pretty darling
Take off that girdle and brassiere
The kids are fast asleep pretty mama
Time for the adults to get naughty
You look so hot in that terry cloth robe
Let it fall to the ground. Oh, Lordy!
'Cause I'm your Single Mother's Day present, baby
And I can go all night long
Not once, not twice but three times baby
Then I'll sing you my turkey song...
Backup Singers: Turkey lurky doo...
Adam: I'll do it for you....
Backup Singers: Turkey lurky dee
Adam: Take a big bite out of me!
Backup Singers: Turkey lurky dactic...
Adam: I'll make sure to wear a prophlatic.
Backup Singers: Turkey lurky lie...
Adam: Sammy Davis Jr. only had one eye
Backup Singers: Doo doo wah la...
Adam: Happy Mother's Day!
Bev Gelfand: We're going out to dinner for the occasion, but we can't decide where to go. Where do you want to go, Hank?
Hank Gelfand: Go. Away.
Hank Gelfand: I've got stupid in stereo. (grabs bottle) Sleeping pills... my only friend. (chugs an entire bottle of sleeping pills)
Hank Gelfand: Please God, give me cancer now!
Having previously appeared on October 3, 1981, with this episode Rod Stewart became the first musical guest to appear in both a season premiere and a season finale.
The music used in the game show parody "You Think You're Better Than Me?" (Kevin Nealon's last SNL sketch) is the same theme used on Bob Stewart's game show The $10,000 Pyramid.
This is the last episode to feature G.E. Smith leading the SNL Band.
The "Polar Bears" sketch is symbolic in that the show "killed off" four male cast members before its regenesis four months later. Norm MacDonald and Tim Meadows would return for Year 21 even though they were amongst the mauled in this sketch. NBC executive Don Ohlmeyer was reportedly not a fan of Sandler and Farley. Ohlmeyer pressured Lorne Michaels into letting them out of their contracts early.
In the opening segment, Michael McKean plays the CSM in an X-Files spoof. Three years later Michael McKean appeared in the X-Files two-parter "Dreamland," in which his character swaps identities with Mulder, David Duchovny's character.
Long-time SNL director Dave Wilson retires after directing the last live broadcast of his career. Wilson died from an aortic aneurysm on June 30th, 2002 in Parsipanny, New Jersey.
The only cast members to return next season were Molly Shannon, Tim Meadows, Norm MacDonald, Mark McKinney & David Spade. Of all the cast members that did not return, only Kevin Nealon and Ellen Cleghorne left on their own terms.
