| However, it's hard to tell what he's promoting exactly (besides "Canada's Got Talent"). |

I didn't even know he was on that, and I live here! IMDB has him doing a voice in an upcoming animated movie, so there's that. I guess he's not promoting anything? |

I know it's mean of me to say, but I think they booked Marty because they couldn't get anyone better. He's treading water just above has-been status at this point.

I was surprised. I thought they'd get someone from a holiday movie.

| I think it's the same deal as with Dana Carvey back in 2011, where they were booked because of their connection to the show and status as icons of comedy rather than anything they've done recently. However, I think Carvey had shot a TV pilot around the time he hosted, though it was never picked up. I'm kind of underwhelmed by McCartney appearing again. I liked his performance two seasons ago, but there are a lot of newer acts I'd prefer to see over Macca doing what I presume will be a rendition of "Simply Having a Wonderful Christmas Time". |
My most educated guess is that Macca is playing one song from Kisses on the Bottom, some other holiday standard, and a mystery third song.
I hope Kate gets some more screen time this week.....she was basically not even in the Jamie Foxx episode!
I'm excited for this episode....I love Paul and Martin Short can be hilarious..I think we'll be in for a great episode. Let's hope some other Alum's randomly show up too!

It's not a problem, it's an opportunity. They have been very lucky in that three out of the four newbies in the latest round of cast additions look to be real keepers, and two of the four have been immediately quite productive. That those three happen to be women is a production issue, not a problem. In this instance you definitely change the show to fit the cast instead of letting the best of your newer cast talent lie fallow. I mean, it will be ridiculous if they don't do that. Run dreck like that idiotic drag sketch from the Daniel Craig episode, or write new sketches featuring the women as leads? The choice is obvious.
(They're probably going to need to produce a lot more sketches with roles for women in the second half of the season anyway. Only two of the ten fall hosts were women, a relatively low ratio. I suspect they'll have a lot more women hosting after the holiday break, meaning they'll need to write a lot more sketches like Girlfriends Talk Show. Again, this is an opportunity to write more material like the Tell Him sketch from last season.)
Would you rather it was ten years ago, when the show was cycling through the likes of Dean Edwards, Jeff Richards, Rob Riggle, etc., trying to find new blood?
Looks like we got a Connecticut cold opening, amazing they went back in to film it in time for the show.
Martin Short's monologue was good I sense a classy night for SNL this time around.
