I always thought Myers made such a mistake by ending Austin Powers so early; he could have kept doing that series for yearswhile he tried to find another successful character. But instead of keeping Powers relevant while trying out other characters he chose to end Powers and failed with The Love Guru. Now he looks desperate going back to Powers now that its been out of the mainstream for so long.

I beg to differ; I think Austin Powers ran just beyond its course. Heck, that third movie was supposed to be over two hours long.
I disagree. Goldmember was probably my favorite of the trilogy. But strictly as a business decision, I think it has made Myers less relevant. And now that's he trying to bring back the character after being gone for so long is a pathetic attempt to revive his dead career.

I'm not saying "Goldmember" was terrible, I'm saying a lot of gags were repeated from the first two films and there are some minor continuity issues that are rectified by the deleted scenes. In spite of that, it was a good sequel but not on par with the first movie. Just my two cents.

Interestingly, Goldmember came out exactly 10 years ago (to the day, even). Would Mike have been more relevant or somewhat more despised if he'd kept making movies with accelerating diminishing returns like Sandler?

Good question. The number of "good" Sandler movies can be counted on one hand. Myers had an equally successful, albeit slightly higher-brow, run in the '90s and early '00s. The likely turning point was Mike's divorce and his dabbling into eastern philosophy. Otherwise, I'm sure Myers would be churning out something like "That's My Boy" but much more cartoonish.

Outside of the big three (Wayne's World, Austin Powers and Shrek) though, he has only been the lead in two other movies, I think. Cat in the Hat and Love Guru. Multiple-movie franchises are probably his thing.

There was also "So I Married an Axe Murderer," his one stab (pun intended) at rom-com.

I don't think I've said anything here until now.

If I just think about the time I have watched every episode (since season 30) I would say Bill Hader.

After watching lots of clips from earlier seasons (especially after season 15) I assume my favourite cast member of all time would bePhil Hartman. (I assume it because I still haven't seen most of the sketches of previous seasons)

Right now, I'd say those three women are in a virtual three-way tie for mid-season MVP.

As much as I love Vanessa, Kate's technique this season has been almost flawless. It's amazing how good she is in only her second season. Just her vocal characterizations alone are so good. In my judgement she produces more head-turning moment of sheer brilliance per minute of screen time than anyone since Hader in his second and third seasons.

It's a shame that the awards nominations systems are so biased against SNL, because if Kate was featured on a show like the old Tracy Ullman Show she'd be on the fast track to racking up a lot of gilded tin.

Hello, new member here. Of all time? Gotta be Hartman. He was a brilliant performer who could do just about anything you threw at him. Plus, he just had this endearing likability to him that is made more apparent by how much the cast loved working with him. Of the more recent years (for me, this means after Will Ferrell left till now)? Hader or Forte. Hader could play anything and Fore had this wonderful, unique controlled insanity that made any part he played a riot (one of his characters also inspired my username).

I always liked her, but after all these years you have to admit, she will never be an important cast member.

If she finds another job (if she stays with Mulaneys sitcom) it might be the right time to leave SNL after this season before she overstays her welcome.

Nasim's presence in the show has steadily increased since Year 35, but her development has been stunted by several factors: the over-reliance on Kristen, the meteoric rise of Kate and Cecily, and the overpopulated current cast. I like Pedrad too, but at this point she'll never be a varsity-level player on the show. Barring any progress on Mulaney's long-gestating sitcom, I can see her sticking around one more year.
