The odd thing is, Amy had a career before SNL. I think it's just her big ego that's keeping her on the show. Amy is just so obnoxious at times.

She did? Really? I did not know that. Exactly what was she doing?

Yes. Amy was a member of the Upright Citizens Brigade. In the late 90's, they had a sketch comedy show on Comedy Central.
She was also in "Deuce Bigalow, Male Gigolo."

Was the the lady that fell asleep at dinner? I just remember that blonde chick from the previews.

Actually, she was the lady with Tourette's syndrome.

What is Tourette's syndrome? I've never heard of it.

Handey himself. By the way, he writes for The New Yorker now and he's probably just as weird as he was in 1992.

what's are the chances Will Arnet could host SNL soon. he is very funny and as far as I rememeber exceptfor Susan Sant James who was Married to Producer Dick Ebersol when she hosted back in 1983 it would be the first time a cast memeber had a spouce host while they were in the cast. how great would that be! also was the Bon Jovi song Who Says You Can't Go Home cut off in the last seconds everywhere and do you think that they will fix that in the reruns?

I'm not opposed to having Arnett host, but the box office returns on "Brothers Solomon" say otherwise.

As for the last song, it was cut off because it was running long and that probably won't be corrected. The band was having an in-studio concert after the show, much like when U2 and Arcade Fire were guests in the past.

You've said before that SNL has always been either good cast/weak writing or weak cast/good writing, how would you categorize the following eras of SNL using that model?

1975-80 (Not For Ready Prime Time Players), 1980-81 (Doumenian), 1981-85 (Ebersol), 1985-86 (Lorne's failed comeback), 1986-91 (Renaissance), 1991-94 (Bad Boys), 1994-95 (Bad Boys in decline), 1995-2001 (Renaissance part 2), 2001-present (post Ferrell)

Good question. I wouldn't quite pigeonhole it into those two categories, as some periods of the show had a cast as strong as its writers and vice versa. Given that, here's a straight answer to your question, with one minor change:

    • 1975-80 good cast/good writing
    • 1980-81 bad cast/bad writing
    • 1981-85 so-so cast/so-so writing
    • 1985-86 bad cast/good writing
    • 1986-91 good cast/good writing
    • 1991-94 good cast/so-so writing
    • 1994-95 so-so cast/bad writing
    • 1995-02 so-so cast/good writing
    • 2002-06 so-so cast/so-so writing
    • 2006-present good cast/so-so writing

To elaborate in detail: I finally managed to score some 1980-81 sketches via YouTube (specifically, from the Gould and Carradine shows) and it seemed that Chuck Rocket wasn't that bad after all. Outside of him, Piscopo, and Murphy, I don't think anyone in the Doumanian cast deserved to be on the show at all (including Gottfried), and those three actors ended up carrying most of those bad sketches.

As for the first few years after Ferrell left, it was clear that the show was getting more erratic; part of the blame could be put on Fallon and Sanz, but it could be aimed towards the unfocused writing as well. The change in direction after Year 31 was a slight reprieve, but you still have some inconsistency.

That would be (l-r) Eddie Murphy, Chevy Chase, Will Ferrell, John Belushi, Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray, Chris Farley, Mike Myers, Jane Curtin, Dana Carvey, Phil Hartman, and Gilda Radner.

For future reference, the former Dr. Albright spells her last name "Curtin," not "Curtain."

Is there a website where overnight nielson ratings for the episodes can be viewed?

I know nbcumv.com usually posts ratings if a show scored well.

But if they don't, where else?

Thank you. Apparently, the last three shows didn't get as big ratings as I would've thought (especially the LeBron and Bon Jovi shows, the name alone not necessarily content). The last show to score "big" ratings was Peyton Manning (7.9 million viewers)

Is there a place where I can find Saturday Night LIve Band MP3s? I really like some of their songs, even though we only get to here the beginning and the end of it.

Good question. I don't really know a lot about MP3s.

That's right Conner, you stumped me. Congratulations.
