The prostitute the Cheri Oteri plays in the "Cat House" sketch is very similar to the Nadeen character that appeared throughout Year 25.
In the monologue where John Goodman tries to prove that the episode he's hosting isn't a rerun, Jimmy Fallon says that he was in eighth grade in 1991. Fallon was born in 1974 and in 1991, he would be 17 years old, which is too old for eighth grade.
Sketches not shown in the 60 minute version: "Wrap it Up," "Hello Dolly," "Behind the Music: Bun E. Carlos," "Cathouse Computer System," and Tom Petty and Heartbreakers' performance of "Room at the Top."
At the end of his monologue, John Goodman says, "So stick around, because it's not a rerun from '91!" Goodman has a final line (which cannot be heard easily since the band begins to play) where he then adds, "Or is it?"
In the dress rehearsal Lorne Michaels appeared at the end of John Goodman's monologue wearing a brown wig and a T-shirt (to show even more that it was a "rerun").
A documentary of the making of this episode (as well as the next two) can be seen on the SNL 25th Anniversary videotape and DVD.
John Goodman was originally going to host next week but the episode was canceled due to budget constraints (resulting in only 19 episodes this season). When Dana Carvey pulled out of hosting this episode, the producers asked Goodman and he accepted.
