  • Trivia

  • Quotes

    • Chevy Chase: Ugandan President Idi Amin announced he will undergo a species-change operation in an effort to become a human being. If the operation is successful, Amin says he will pursue a career in American television; if it is not successful, he will eat American television.

    • Ernestine: We handle eighty-four billion calls a year. Serving everyone from presidents and kings to the scum of the earth. We realize that every so often you can't get an operator, for no apparent reason your phone goes out of order, or perhaps you get charged for a call you didn't make.

      We don't care.

Watch this.. [ she hits buttons maniacally ] ..just lost Peoria.

You see, this phone system consists of a multibillion-dollar matrix of space age technology that is so sophisticated, even we can't handle it. But that's your problem, isn't it? Next time you complain about your phone service, why don't you try using two Dixie cups with a string?

We don't care. We don't have to. We're the Phone Company.

    • Chevy Chase: Good evening, I'm God, and here's the news. Let's take a look at the top story, shall we?
(Chevy moves the paper around and then tosses it towards the camera)

  • Notes

    • This episode marks the final appearance, either on the show or otherwise, of the Muppet characters used specifically for SNL.

    • An amendment to the notes about this episode's edition of "Weekend Update": On repeat airings, as well as in syndication and on E!, the anchor was Chevy Chase, in spite of the injuries he sustained at the end of the "Ford/Carter Debate" sketch. Jane Curtin will fill in as anchor on the next two shows, however.

    • When this episode reaired in NBC late night in September 2001, the portion of Weekend Update with Emily Litella calling about the five 'crustaceans' hijacking an airplane was cut due to sensitivity issues regarding the September 11 tragedy.

    • Chevy Chase injures himself in the groin during a fall on the "Debate 76" sketch. He will miss the next two shows.
