Buster Poindexter was scheduled to appear in the show but was bumped due to a lack of time.

Due to a gaffe on the stage crew's part, the Weekend Update set was not completely assembled until moments before the cameras were on Dennis Miller. At the beginning of the segment, Miller ad-libs "Never let them see you sweat." Also, Victoria Jackson breaks character while narrating her video footage, and Dennis makes fun of her for it.

Sam Kinison had appeared on the show several times to perform stand-up routines, but this was the only time he actually hosted.
