Saturday Night Live

Season 29 Episode 19

Snoop Dogg/Avril Lavigne

Aired Saturday 11:30 PM May 08, 2004 on NBC

  • Trivia

    • The song Jimmy Fallon sang about Flag Day for Weekend Update is to the tune of "Rave On" by Buddy Holly.

    • In the Weekend Update parody, Arbor Day is in the spring. So Jimmy should've thanked Jane Curtin and Bill Murray in 1980, not Charles Rocket.

  • Quotes

    • Tina Fey: It was reported that at the White House Correspondents' Dinner last Saturday, a middle-aged woman flashed her breasts at Ben Affleck and shouted, "You are f-ing gorgeous!" Proving once again, that Ann Coulter cannot hold her cocaine.

    • Bill Clinton: You look stunning. Did you do something to your hair?
Tina Fey: Yes, I blew it straight.
Bill Clinton: Heh. I bet you did.

    • Jimmy Fallon: A new article in Vanity Fair says that Bill Clinton is struggling to finish his book, My Life, in time for his deadline. It's not surprising since you can only type so fast using one hand.

  • Notes

    • Sketches/segments not shown in the 60 minute version: "Mom Jeans" (rerun 5/10/03), "A Mother's Day Message From Snoop Dogg," "TV Funhouse: Pothead Theater," "The Duster's Digest," Avril Lavigne's performance of "Don't Tell Me", "ABC Fall Promo" and "Snoop Dogg misses 'Friends'."

    • Jake Gyllenhaal was originally supposed to host this episode. He dropped out for unknown reasons and was replaced by Snoop Dogg.

    • The E! rerun of this episode has a dress rehearsal version of "Appalachian Emergency Room" where Snoop Dogg's character Booker Fricky is shown with a small, deformed plastic arm (in the live show version, his hurt arm was nowhere to be seen) and, instead of saying "By the way, I ain't peeing in no cup", he says, "Come on!" and a line of black trailer trash (presumably his family) follow him to his assigned room.

    • A sketch entitled "Zings vs. Snaps" with Seth Meyers and Snoop Dogg as brain surgeons who trade off insults was cut after dress rehearsal. A redone version of this sketch can be found in the Queen Latifah episode from Season 30.

    • This episode never reran on NBC.

    • The opening sketch was a parody of the Friends final episode that aired May 6th.

  • Allusions

    • The cold opening with Bush and Rumsfeld spoofs Ross and Rachel's reunion at the end of the series finalé of the NBC sitcom Friends.
