During the Clinton Auditions, Chris Elliott flubs and calls Dave Wilson "Hal." Hal Gurnee was the longtime director of David Letterman's talk show, which Elliott appeared on.

In the sketch "Bill Clinton Auditions," cast members Chris Farley, David Spade, Chris Elliott, Adam Sandler, and Tim Meadows auditioned to to take Phil Hartman's place as Bill Clinton. Michael McKean ended up playing Clinton for the rest of the season until he left and Darrell Hammond joined the cast.
Janeane Garofalo and Chris Elliott join the repertory cast, while Laura Kightlinger hops onboard as a featured player.
