Episode Summary

Fall Formal
Katie is happy when Nicky asks her to the upcoming Fall Formal dance. Maria's date's father will be a chaperone. He's Paul Wilson, a big record producer, and Ryan has a plan to get him to hear Eric and his brothers sing at the Formal. Maria and Rachel are super-excited about the new dresses they've bought for the dance, but Katie is beginning to feel ashamed because her parents can't afford a new dress for her this year. Mrs. Peterson alters a dress of Katie's sister's, though, which Katie plans to wear. Ryan engineers a breakup of the Bayside Barbershop Quartet (who were supposed to be the Formal's only entertainment!), then has Mr. Belding listen to Eric and his brothers. Belding gives them the job on the spot. Katie is afraid she will embarrass Nicky in an old dress. To raise money, she tells Screech she can fix the broken air conditioner that has been plaguing Mr. Belding. Screech gives her the job. She and Nicky manage to fix it, but it soon blows up. Katie confesses to Screech that she did the job just for money to buy a dress. Meanwhile, Ryan has Eric do an audition before a fake producer played by Screech. Eric is stricken by stage fright even though he's just singing before Screech. He tells Ryan his voice is gone and he can't sing at the dance. When Ryan and Maria tell him Mr. Wilson won't be there after all, his voice comes back. Katie decide she can't go to the dance, either, and stages a breakup with Nicky. Nicky tells Screech he was part of the air conditioner fiasco and Screech tells him about Katie wanting to buy a new dress. The night of the formal, Nicky comes by Katie's house dressed in his tux, gives her a corsage and pleads with her to come to the dance with him. She is apprehensive, but agrees. When she gets to the prom, it turns out that Rachel and Maria love her remodeled dress but hate their own new expensive ones. Screech and Ryan hide Mr. Wilson from Eric, and he and his brothers perform. But Wilson doesn't hear their performance--he's helping fix Belding's air conditioner! Katie and Nicky share a dance and a kiss.moreless

  • With The Prom coming up, the gang are all excited except for Katie. She doesnt have enough money for a dress and might not end up going. Meanwhile Eric and his brothers end up singing at The Prom in place of Beldongs Quartet.moreless

The episode starts off with the gang discussing the prom. The first thing they notice is a big blown up picture of Belding and his quartet to everyones disgust. It turns out that theyre going to be the evenings musical guests (or so they think...LOL). The next scene has Nicky asking Katie out to the prom which makes her ecstatic. The girls overheard this and say that now they gotta go dress shopping because as shallow Rachel put it "this is the biggest event of the year." Unfortunately Katies funds are low and she doesnt have enough money to buy a new dress. She has a talk with her mother about it and her mom suggests that she wears her sisters dress from when she went to the prom. Katie is paranoid and skeptical thinking since it isnt brand new that no one will like it. Fast forward to Bayside where Ryan sabotages Beldings singing group into hating him by spreading rumors which they buy and peace hiss nerdy ass out. Obviously it was all done so that Eric and his brothers could swoop in and take their spot. They audition right on the spot and get the gig. Ryan finds out that some music company A&R will be coming to Bayside to watch him perform. Instead of being happy, Eric starts getting shook and mad nervous thinking hes going to screw up this once in a lifetime oppurtunity. He ends up faking that he lost his voice until Ryan and Maria lie and say the A&R isnt coming. Then like magic his voice is back and hes ready to perform. Still embarassed about the dress situation, Katie gets into a fake argument with Nicky so that they dont have to go to the dance together. Nicky is befuddled until Screech lets him know the truth about the money and the dress situation. Nicky goes to Katies house on prom night and tells her hes not mad at her, to put on the dress, and dont care what anyone else thinks because he thinks she looks beautiful. The funny and ironic part of the whole ordeal is once Katie arrives she gets together with Rachel and Maria unsure as to what theyre reaction will be to her dress. It turns out they love it and that they regret getting the ones they got. Maria paid $250 and the dress is so tight she can barely walk in it while Rachel paid $300 and two other girls at the prom have the same exact dress.

The episode ends with Erics group performing to a great ovation but because of Screechs dumb ass, the A&R wasnt in the gym during the performance and missed it. Ryan gets pissed at Scratch but realizes that theres nothing he can do. Afterwards Nicky and Katie express their feelings towards one another and kiss and the episode ends. The thing that i liked about this episde is that it had the original SBTB feel to it. Whether it was all the prom/dance disasters that always seemed to occur or the romanticism that always happen i just love these types of episodes.moreless
