  • The real pilot episode.

Well since all the episodes of Saved by The Bell are out of order, this was the real pilot episode. The beginning when Zack says "I'll never forget the day Slater showed up" was a voice over they put in since this aired in the middle of the season. This episode is Zack's first day of High school, So Bliss characters are in the show, but some aren't. Slater meets Zack, they both compete for Kelly, practically a formula for the whole first season set in hand. Zack's cleverness is revealed in this episode, a great intro to a great show.moreless

this ep was funny but in a way a chauvanistic ep that wasnt all that great to me but the plot was good and the characters were very good and did their parts well as well as staying very true to their characters..spoiler..zack and slater both have a thing for kelly and they were trying to beat each other to her when they both were going to ask her out..the way they did it was funny..i was upset that kelly went for slater..b/c im a huge kelly/zack fan..but that happens sometimes and i guess the writers know what theyre doing thenmoreless

This episode was not very good, and I will tell you why. Slater doesn't have a big role in this episode, but that is also not why. If you ever heard about Slater being in many schools for the last 3 years, you might want to know how Slater found the friends in the first place, and how now Slater and Zack are fighting for the gorgeous Kelly. Well, this episode will explain all. Here is the original first episode. It's not very great, but remember, this is the actual first episode. They were still working out the kinks in the actor and production.

The humor might not be the best, but this episode worked out very well.moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (3)

    • Zack tells Slater that he has been waiting for two years to get a chance with Kelly. However, in the series Good Morning Miss Bliss which was set in the previous school year, Zack mentions interest in several girls but never mentions anyone named Kelly.

    • Despite it being the gang's first day of high school, Mr. Belding already knows Zack from being his principal in junior high (Good Morning, Miss Bliss) although they never directly say Mr. Belding is just starting at the high school.

    • Slater has been in 14 schools in the last three years.

  • QUOTES (6)

    • Zack: Hey look Slater, I've waited for Kelly for two years. I've lived through her last six boyfriends. Now think of the man hours I've put in.
Slater: Wimp hours is more like it.
Zack: You're calling me names? You're the one who's been in fourteen schools in three years. What are ya? Some sort of delinquent?

    • Mr. Belding: (while removing his suit coat and putting on a buttoned sweater) I'm taking a different approach with you, Zack.
Zack: (Observes Belding's sweater) So you're gonna be "Mr. Rogers"?
Mr. Belding: You're in the neighborhood.

    • Zach: Alright, maybe the first day didn't turn out as I planned, but hey I'm just warming up. I love school. Too bad classes get in the way.

    • Mr. Dewey: O.K. settle down everyone, I'm Mr. Dewey how was everyone's summer, mine stunk let's get started.

    • Zack: We weren't arguing.
Slater: We were doing a math problem, how two and one won't go
Mr. Dewey: I don't believe it and I don't care, I'm tired, I have a toothache and I have to go home and pump iron.

    • Zack: Hi, you're new here. I'm Zack Morris.
Slater: And I'm Roger Rabbit, so what?

  • NOTES (4)

    • Mr. Dewey and Ms. Simpson, like Mr. Tuttle, would appear in many other episodes for the series. Like Mr. Tuttle, Mr. Dewey would serve multiple proctor functions, although he is usually depicted as the math teacher. And Ms. Simpson is the English teacher who has hearing disorder.

    • The producers added a brief voice-over by Zack in order to make the episode fit in the middle of the first season (though it was originally meant to be the 1st episode). Zack says "I'll never forget the day Slater showed up," as if this episode is some sort of flashback.

    • This is the first episode in production order. Miss Bliss and Zack's friends from Good Morning, Miss Bliss are never referred to.

    • This was the first episode filmed for the entire series of Saved by the Bell. Actually, Saved by the Bell evolved from another short-lived series titled Good Morning Miss Bliss, often shown with Saved by the Bell.

  • ALLUSIONS (1)

    • Mr. Belding: (while removing his suit coat and putting on a buttoned sweater) I'm taking a different approach with you, Zack.
Zack: (Observes Belding's sweater) So you're gonna be "Mr. Rogers"?
Mr. Belding: You're in the neighborhood. This scene and dialogue is a play on the PBS children's TV series Mister Rogers' Neighborhood in which Mr. Rogers removes his suit coat and wears a buttoned sweater while singing his opening theme after entering the house.
