    • Dawn: Listen, Alex, this morning, I was hard on you, 'cause this is a hard job. And if you're gonna feel every--
Alex: I will, Dawn. Okay? That's just who I am.
Dawn: Right. And I'm the bitch.
      Alex: I never said that.
Dawn: You don't need to. I know what people think of me. "Oh, Dr. Bell. She's such a hard-ass.", "I'm so afraid of Dr. Bell."
Alex: I'm not afraid of you, Dawn. You pulled the plug on Charlie, and I'm having a bit of a difficult time dealing with that. Okay?
Dawn: And I'm having a bit of a hard time getting over Charlie leaving me for you.

    • Alex: Dr. Bell is gonna be in here shortly.
Sam: She gets under your skin. You get around her, you lose the ability to think clearly. I had someone like that in my life once.
Alex: What'd you do about it?
      Sam: I married her.

    • Alex: Dawn, this is about what's best for the patient.
Dawn: You think I don't know that?
Alex: Won't you consider that the colon might take precedent?
      Dawn: No.
      Alex: Why?
Dawn: Because if I were to concede that and allow you to operate on his belly, and something happened to his heart, I don't trust that you would know how to handle it. I know you think I'm mean. I'm not. I'm frank.
Alex: So this is about me?
Dawn: As a doctor? Yes. It's not personal.
Alex: Well, it feels like it is.
Dawn: Well, maybe you need to stop feeling so much and start acting like a surgeon.

    • Alex: (about Sam, to Maggie) He has some lower abdominal pain.
Sam: Let me guess. That's not good.
      Alex: It's nothing conclusive.
Sam: Give you even money it's cancer.
Maggie: Yeah, I'm pretty sure I'm not supposed to wager on a patient's pathology. Dr. Reid?
Sam: Smart. Save your money. My lifestyle. The question isn't "Why me?" but "Why not me"?
