When Amanda's ex-husband Joe King (SAM MELVILLE) arrives in Washington, wanted by the police, Lee "Scarecrow" Stetson (BRUCE BOXLEITNER) and Amanda (KATE JACKSON) must clear his name, but can they keep him alive long enough?
IFF discovers that a government building is being threatened by an ex-agent. A huge problem arises when the agents must find out just which building it is. This means they must find someone who worked with the man who made the threat, before it is too late.
Amanda uses her community theater and college experience, taking a role in a play by an American playwright, to find out why the Soviets want to back the production. Lee poses as a journalist as they try to find investigative leads.
Before departing for their secret wedding ceremony, Lee and Amanda have to wrap up a case that involved an art theft and murder. They race to wrap up the case in order to be on time for the wedding ceremony.
Lee suspects that Harry Thornton (retired Agency founder) and Christina Golitsyn (former Soviet Embassy courier) are on a mission to obtain Khrushchev's spy list. The list contains names that would implicate some American government officials.
Lee and Amanda are asked by Billy to pose as a married couple in a wealthy community, where they must investigate the supply of weapons to Central America after a gunrunner from there was assassinated.
Amanda is the Agency's only ticket to a private fund-raiser where a wealthy auto collector plans to hold a meeting with several high-powered men regarding a secret formula to control the supply and price crops.
Lee and Amanda are assigned to work with rival spies from China and the Soviet Union, as the spies work their way across the nation, to see who's using an international star's non-profit organization for illegal activities.
