  • Through the Looking Glass...

    10
I think it's safe to say that this episode should be renamed "Through the Looking Glass, and what fred found there". The episode is really good, dealing not only with something that it's been bound to happen and that is the confrontation between Fred and his parents. I really liked thw whole scenario of a post-apocalyptical version of Crystal Cove... very mysterious and very scary.

But the part of this episode that made me shiver was when Professor Pericles finally got his claws on the Planespheric Disc and placed it on a machine ans said "I'm here for you, This points out that this parrot is more than meets the eye. In order to get it, he made Brad and Judy go through a plastic surgery to make them look like Fred and Daphne, and that's simply twisted.

Also loved the clues that Fred left for the gang to find out that the Fred they had with him was really a fake. I give this one a 10, because it's really propelling the whole series into a new scary level.moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (2)

    • According to Velma, she was never late for school before which seems unlikely even from the first episode in the series, where they were prevented from arriving on time by the Slime Monster who attacked the Mystery Machine.

    • The red room, 'other Nova', and the dancing, reverb voice ladenmidget that Scooby sees in his dreams are a reference to Twin Peaks. In that series, Cooper sees the little man, and another version of Laura Palmer, the girl whose murder he is investigating. The red room is the entryway to the Black Lodge.

  • QUOTES (2)

    • Brad: It's not a mask, you imbecile! I had plastic surgery to look like you! You would have spotted a mask too quickly!

    • Fake Fred: Does the dog need walking?
      Scooby-Doo: I walk myself, Fred!
Fake Fred: Perhaps you'd like a Canine Crumpet?
Scooby-Doo: Those aren't Scooby Snacks, Fred!
Fake Fred: What's the difference? They all taste the same!
Scooby-Doo: Why don't you eat them?
Fake Fred: WHAT WAS THAT, SCOOBERT?!

  • NOTES (2)

    • Even though the post-apocalyptic version of Crystal Cove looks deserted, the real Crystal Cove seems also unnaturally deserted, given that the places the gang visited were open, but there was no one in sight.

    • This is the first time that the villains' costumes don't consist of masks.

  • ALLUSIONS (2)

    • Fringe

The way the episode's clips change from the post-apocalyptical version of Crystal Cove and the true Crystal Cove is similar to how they changed the action from one Earth to another in the 2007 series Fringe, starring Anna Torv, John Noble, Joshua Jackson, Jasica Nicole, Lance Reddick and Leonard Nimoy.

    • Through the Looking-Glass and What Alice Found There

The episode's plot bears a few similarities with the sequel to Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, Through the Looking-Glass and What Alice Found There, written by Lewis Carroll in 1871.
