  • Velma investigates a rather peculiar case.

    9.5
This episode was one of those episodes where a bit of everything happened. We had a big mystery; we have seen charcters that haven's showed up in a while, and finally, we are one step closer to solve the main story arc mystery. As always, the monsters were completely creepy, but the mermaid looked so cute and realistic. it's good to know that Velma believes in the supernatural. I can say with total certainty that this episode was almost all about Velma, which is good, because she's my favourite character in the series, and also because she deserved an episode about herself, to explain why she acts the way she acts, among other things. I give this one a 9.5 for being really good, but not perfect.moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (3)

    • There are six Skipper Sheltons (the clammer who has appeared before, a sardiner, a shrimper, a manta-rayer, a kelper, and a sea-dragoner, whom they don't talk about). This parallels Daphne and her sisters, suggesting she has five (with the odd one being her astronaut sister).

    • Ernesto's statement, "We have to destroy the environment in order to save it" is an echo of the famous Vietnam-era quote, "We had to destroy the village in order to save it."

    • This episode marks the second appearance of Ernesto and his gang since their first appearance in the episode "The Shrieking Madness".

  • QUOTES (1)

  • NOTES (1)

    • When the gang meets Ed Machine again face-to-face, it seems they do not recognize him as the associate of Mr. E, who spoke to them after the Aphrodite case, showing them Professor Pericles the warning message to Mr. E.

  • ALLUSIONS (1)

    • Creature from the Black Lagoon

The Fish Freaks design is very similar to Gil-man, the monster from the 1954 film Creature from the Black Lagoon, starring Antonio Moreno, Ben Chapman, Richard Carlson and Julie Adams.
